Letters to the Editor

Letter to the Editor: Adam Senesi

The following is a letter to the editor:
Town Meeting is the final local authority on zoning and financial matters affecting Burlington’s viability and livability. The 126 Town Meeting members representing seven precincts bring a variety of experience and perspective. Both experience and perspective matter, but I’d like to advocate for the fresh perspective of two candidates in Precinct 1.

Peter Abaskharoun is a longtime resident serving in a professional capacity as Traffic Sergeant in the Burlington Police Department. The knowledge Peter will bring Town Meeting related to traffic flow patterns will be helpful to issues of zoning and development. He understands the importance development plays in maintaining high quality municipal services. These services include our local schools, where his children are enrolled. Peter understands the impact that growth and redevelopment have on the livability of our residential neighborhoods. Peter’s perspective will be valuable to ensure Burlington remains ascendent and rich with resident quality of life.

Dina Wassaf is seeking re-election to her first full-term after filling a vacancy on Town Meeting, and she’s been a great community contributor in many ways. Our daughters are friends and classmates at the Fox Hill Elementary School, and I know Dina and her family’s commitment to the children of Burlington through our public school system, as well as the youth soccer program where her family has devoted themselves to involvement. Dina works professionally in the Lifesciences field. Massachusetts leads in this growing field, and Burlington has been a vanguard for growth. Lifesciences are increasingly central to Burlington’s economic portfolio, with shifting landscapes casting doubt on retail’s long-term viability. Dina has been working closely with the Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce to attract good-paying jobs to this area and new revenue to our commercial taxbase.

I hope the voters of Burlington’s Precinct 1 will join me in saving two of their six votes for Town Meeting on behalf of Peter Abaskharoun and Dina Wassaf.
