The following is a letter to the editor and does not necessarily reflect the opinion of BNEWS.
As a parent with a senior in Burlington Public Schools, I have seen firsthand how the decisions made by our School Committee directly impact our students’ daily experiences and long-term opportunities. This is a pivotal moment not only for my child, but for many families across our community.
With two open seats and four candidates in this race, I am writing in support of Jeremy Brookes and Aaron Reeves for School Committee.
Jeremy Brookes, a lifelong Burlington resident, veteran, and father, has demonstrated the kind of leadership our district needs. He is transparent, engaged, and grounded in accountability. Jeremy consistently asks thoughtful, fact based questions and focuses on what decisions truly mean for our students and our schools. His commitment to education, student safety, and fiscal responsibility is clear in both his words and actions.
Aaron Reeves, as a new candidate, brings a fresh perspective and a strong commitment to positive change. He has been honest, responsive, and transparent throughout his campaign. Aaron understands that our district faces important decisions ahead and that those decisions must be made with students not politics at the center.
Burlington needs a School Committee that will prioritize our children, demand transparency, and ensure accountability at every level, including honest and meaningful evaluations of district leadership.
As a parent preparing to send my child out into the world, I care deeply about the direction of our schools not just for my family, but for those that follow. I believe Jeremy Brookes and Aaron Reeves are the right choices to help lead Burlington.
I will continue to stay actively involved, advocating for our students and working to address the issues that continue to affect our district. Our community owes students more than the bare minimum we need strong leadership, clear accountability, and a commitment to doing what is right for every child and every family in our community. Our children and families deserve to be equally valued and supported. Burlington students deserve strong leadership, clear accountability, and a commitment to doing what is right for every child. Rigorous education and meeting standards rather than lowering them because we are failing at meeting them. That includes holding district leadership responsible and ensuring expectations are met with transparency and integrity. Serving on the School Committee is a responsibility to the entire community it represents requiring thoughtful decision making, accountability, and a commitment to all students and families. Currently we are failing at this. Bring change to Burlington.
Sincerely,
Jami Weber
