Library’s “Cinema Sundays” Program Concludes Its Second Seasons

The Burlington Public Library recently wrapped a successful second season of their Sunday Cinema series.

Daniel Barbour, Director of Programming for the Library, said the idea for the series came about when patrons began requesting more events on Sunday afternoons.

“We started the first year with a smaller group of movies and expanded this year as the interest was quite high.  When Wegmans agreed to sponsor our popcorn, it was a no-brainer!”

The Library’s Cinema Sundays run from December through April, with a distinct theme each month.

“Our Oscar-nominated film screenings drew the biggest crowds.” said Barbour, “We also celebrated the genius of Alfred Hitchcock in celebration of our Mystery Month in January, brought laughter with romantic comedies in February, and embraced the holiday spirit with seasonal favorites to kick things off last December.”

“Of all the movies that we screened, I think Conclave, A Real Pain, and Sing Sing were met with the highest reception.” explained Barbour, “Like Hollywood studios pushing out blockbusters, our series was full of hits and misses – some weeks we had as many as forty patrons, others just a handful.”

The third season of Cinema Sundays will begin this December.

“For our film-loving community who can’t bear the wait, we’ve planned several special one-night-only screenings throughout the summer and fall” said Barbour “including a highly anticipated encore presentation of Wicked that our patrons have been requesting since its first showing.”

Barbour also welcomes the community to offer their film recommendations for the series, “We cannot always accommodate, but I find the suggestions incredibly helpful as the lineup is constructed!”
