Little Free Library Open at The Park at Burlington Mall

There is a new way to borrow books for free while out shopping in Burlington.

The Friends of the Burlington Public Library and the Burlington Mall have created a community partnership to create The Little Free Library at the mall’s newest outdoor space, The Park.

“The Library offers a wide range of popular books, including categories such as children’s, young adult, adult, fiction, and non-fiction,” a joint release from the two organizations reads. “All books are gently used and reader-approved.”

Burlington residents and shoppers are encouraged to both take a book and to share a book. The Friends restocks the book selection weekly, as needed. The books stocked by the Friends are carefully chosen for reader appeal.

When asked by BNEWS about the goal of the program, those behind the project said the little library is meant to help residents have another way of connecting with both the Public Library and literature in general.

“The Little Free Library at Burlington Mall provides residents with the free flow of reader-approved books and encourages them to give reading for fun a try,” the release states. “Readers who enjoy a book they picked up will then go to the library for more books by that same author, or on that particular subject, or in that specific style. It all starts by picking up an unexpected book and giving it a try – especially if it’s a book outside of one’s typical comfort-zone.”

Finally, Simon Properties and the Burlington Mall said the Little Free Library fits in with their goals of being a destination and connecting to the Burlington community.

“Burlington Mall is more than just a shopping and dining destination – it’s about socializing with friends and family,” they said. “In the case of The Little Free Library, residents of all ages can enjoy the new outdoor space called The Park. They can enjoy time around the warming tables, take a ride in the very modern swings, or just start a good read. The Little Free Library is another way of incorporating a whole new era of shopping, socializing and dining into local community life.”
