Local Business Student Looking to Open ‘3 Little Birds’ Massage Spa

A local college student and his business partner are looking to open up a small business in Burlington.

Paperwork has been filed with the Planning Department to set up a therapeutic massage business at 169 Bedford Street in the Bedford Street Plaza.

The application was filed by Kelsey Bevis who identified himself as a current business management major at UMass Lowell. The only massage therapist on staff is Jessica Pattelena, a former Burlington resident and who graduated from Salter School of Massage and has worked for various beauty salons and spas in the interim.

Bevis said the location is 865 square feet and will feature a walk-in area with a reception desk and a waiting area with a few chairs spaced six feet apart, two massage rooms, a restroom and a storage area. The plaza’s parking lot, he said, will be more than enough for the five spaces the business will require. The signage will take place on a couple sides of the building with natural colors.

Bevis said they are planning on calling the business “3 Little Birds” as a tribute to Pattelena’s father who was a big Bob Marley fan before he passed away when she was 10 years old.

“He was a fan of the musician Bob Marley and ‘3 Little Birds’ was the last song they sang together,” Bevis wrote in the application. “Since then, Jessica has devoted her life to helping others live their best life reducing stress.”

The application is scheduled to be before the Planning Board on Thursday, November 18.
