“Lower Town Center” Placemaking Playbook and Community Survey

There’s a lot to like about Burlington and in recent years the town has become known as Boston’s Best Neighbor for its booming industrial and commercial industry. The town of Burlington is conducting a survey for the Lower Town Center with the objective of developing a temporary placemaking strategy for that part of town.

Placemaking is about rethinking Burlington for its people and not just cars and shopping centers. Placemaking focuses on observing, listening and asking questions of the people who live, work, and play in the area so their needs are understood and the town can come up with a common vision for the Lower Town Center. Burlington’s Economic Development Director Melisa Tintolcalis spoke on creating a good relationship between residents and where they live.

“The goal is to have people imagine new possibilities in some of our existing spaces that allows for more interaction and business activity for neighboring businesses,” Tintocalis said.

Town officials would like to hear your ideas for the “in-between” spaces that will support businesses and create a visually cohesive identity. The intent of this placemaking strategy is to create a more welcoming, comfortable area to visit or add new reasons to visit the Lower Town Center

For the best experience possible to see all the options clearly, we recommend taking this survey on a laptop, desktop, or tablet. This survey should take 7 to 10  minutes to complete and there is an optional business survey at the end of the public survey.
