Letter to the Editor: In Support of Brad Bond

The following is a letter to the editor and does not necessarily reflect the opinion of BNEWS.

When Brad Bond asked me to be treasurer for his campaign for Burlington’s Select Board, I did not hesitate to help. I have worked closely with Brad for 18 years on the town’s Ways and Means Committee. Brad and I chaired the committee in successive terms from 2008-2012. This corresponded with the time of the US financial crisis and a significant recession. Despite pressure on revenues and a general fear of how deep the recession would be, we worked with the town and schools to weather the storm keeping services intact and tax increases to minimum levels.

Brad is now seeking a position on the Select Board to bring his experience in managing town finances to that board at a time when Burlington is facing several large projects. These projects will require the town to navigate approval and funding for critical infrastructure including a new police station, and new elementary school and a pending report from a committee that is studying the future of the high school.

I know that Brad will take his experience in working across all departments in town and in working with town administration to meet these challenges successfully. Brad is smart and thoughtful. He will listen to others and come up with solutions to problems. He has experience with the business community from serving as president of Rotary Club. He also served as president on BCAT and understands our community. Most importantly, he will help keep Burlington a great place to live! I hope you will join me in voting for Brad Bond for Select Board on or before April 6th.
