Make a Sure Bet on Burlington Athletes at the Burlington Athletic Boosters Casino Night

The Burlington Athletic Boosters Club is hosting a Casino Night to benefit high school athletics.

A $30 ticket gets you $1,000 in casino cash for games like blackjack, poker roulette and non-casino games, as well as raffle items including a Booze Barrow. “It’s exactly what it sounds like, it’s a wheelbarrow full of different kinds of alcoholic drinks,” said Boosters co-president Meghan Mercier.

Mercier says a portion of the proceeds for each ticket sold will be donated to a BHS athletic team of your choice. “That money can be used for anything the team wants. Like for their banquet or if they want to get food for a game night or a long bus drive. Something that we can’t necessarily give because we need to do it for all teams,” explained Mercier.

Attendees can select their favorite team when you buy tickets, and the Boosters will donate a portion of the proceeds directly to the team. “The more tickets that are bought for a team, the more money we can give them,” said Mercier.

The beverages in the Booze Barrow were donated by local establishments. There will also be two grand raffle prizes, 0ne for a night’s stay at Foxwoods Casino and another for a night at Loon Mountain Resort. Other prizes include two tickets to the New England Patriots, a Wachusett gift pack, a golf bag, a gift packet from Radiant Waxing, gift cards to Nobby Nails and Spa, Morandi’s Barber Shop, and more.

The Boosters recently purchased a scorers table for the high school, but Mercier said they also support the athletics program and Burlington athletes in other ways.

“Giving scholarships at the end of the year to our seniors. We give 27 scholarships total. Seven of those are coach-selected scholarships that are specific to male and female scholar-athletes. There are two scholarships called the Red Devil Award for someone that shows the most Red Devil spirit,” she said.

Volunteering with the Burlington Athletic Booster Club is a paying gig, for a team of the volunteers’ choice.

“Say I’m going to volunteer at concessions at a football game but I want my money to go to the track team. It’s five dollars an hour and it really does add up, then there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer for concessions or at one of our events. We will donate money to a team for every hour an adult volunteers. And kids are eligible for Adopt-A-Class hours,” Mercer continued. “We’d love to get some new people on our board. We have board members who are primarily senior parents who will be having kids graduating this year.”

Casino Night is scheduled for Saturday, September 28 from 7 to 11 p.m at Tuscan Kitchen in Burlington.
