May Town Meeting wrapped up its third and final night on May 18, with a majority of articles on the warrant passing, with some exceptions and amendments.
After the meeting came to order, discussion on the Historical Society Shed for the West School site resumed, with an amendment put forth to lower the price from $100,000 to $30,000. After a discussion with Town Meeting members suggesting alternate sites for the shed, and alternative storage options for the town’s historical artifacts, the amendment passed but the article failed.
The remainder of Article 3 (The FY2027 Capital Budget) was the line items for Burlington Public Schools. Superintendent Dr. Eric Conti and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Lisa Chen gave a brief presentation on the schools’ capital requests, after Town Meeting members requested more information from the School Committee last week.
Article 3-22 (System Wide Curriculum) passed with a reduced amount, as did all of the schools’ capital requests, although 3-29 (Marshall Simonds Field Upgrades/Bathroom Facility) did prompt some discussion.
Article 24, a proposed amendment to the Wireless Communications Overlay Districts Map, failed after a discussion that took up the final third of the evening. Articles 15, 19, 22, and 23 were withdrawn.
