Meal Prep Service WECO Opens Burlington Pick-up Location

There is a new option for people not in the mood to cook but want to have a family style meal at home.

WECO Hospitality, a meal preparation service that specializes in fresh, chef-crafted dishes, opened a pick-up center at 23 4th Avenue within Burlington’s Northwest Park this week.

WECO is not a subscription service with auto payments and regular deliveries like many other similar services. Instead, customers can sign up for their weekly Thursday email with the menu for the week ahead and choose which meals they would like to either pick-up or have delivered.

The business says their mission is to provide quality, locally-sourced (when possible) meals that are healthy options a whole family can share.

“As a society, Americans are spending less and less time gathering at the dinner table at the end of their day,” their website states. “With work schedules, home schooling, and simply life in general, there’s little time to plan, shop, prep, cook, and clean. WECO’s mission is to help reverse that trend, and get families to come together around healthy, delicious, fresh offerings, from the farm to our chefs to your table.”

The meals are prepared each day by WECO chefs and can be reheated for dinnertime.

They also say they hire local chefs and their model allows them to provide a better work/life balance for their employees.

“Chefs often work brutally long hours, nights, weekends, and holidays hidden away in kitchens,” the website states. They rarely get recognized for the beautiful food they create. WECO provides a healthy, positive work environment, fair hours and pay, and recognition for the team who works so hard to create great food.”

Perhaps the most unique aspect of the business is the payment structure. They say they work on a “trust based model” and allow customers to pay what they think is fair after covering the cost of supplies.

“After dinner, you’ll receive an email with a link to pay,” the website states. “We bill you the cost of the ingredients and you add what you think is fair for our overhead, labor, and love. You trust us to solve dinner, we trust you to pay us fairly! Most customers just double the ingredient costs to keep it super simple.”
