Burlington is welcoming some new talent to its public service departments. The Select Board approved appointments for key positions in three departments, bringing in experienced professionals to serve the community.

Burlington Fire Chief James Browne introduced two academy-trained firefighters to join the department, saying they were very lucky to have two candidates already academy-trained.

“We’ll do our four-week orientation and they’ll be ready to go,” said Chief Browne.

Joseph Tuminelli, a resident of Woburn, is a level one and two academy-trained firefighter and a paramedic. For the last four years, he has served with the Ware, Massachusetts Fire Department.

Robert Williamson, originally from Florida, is a resident of Somerville and is also academy-trained on levels one and two. He is currently working with Cataldo EMS and has four years of experience with Polk County Fire and Rescue in Florida.

Both Tuminelli and Williamson are set to begin their four-week orientation, after which they’ll be ready to join their shifts.

Town Administrator John Danizio noted this is a big win for the department, as it often takes a considerable amount of time to get new recruits through the academy.

Town Engineer Tom Hayes introduced Benjamin Jette as the town’s new civil engineer. Jette comes with a master’s degree in civil engineering and has spent the last seven years teaching in the Chelsea school system.

“He’s our best pick. We all agree he would fit in well with the division,” said Hayes.

Burlington’s Youth and Family Services Department is gaining a new social worker, Samuel Monius. Department Director David Lankford highlighted Monius’ qualifications and dedication. Monius has been working as a clinical intern within the department, showing great curiosity, reliability, and a commitment to the community’s well-being.

Lankford said Monius’ diverse background, including experience in teaching, coaching, art, and even construction, has prepared him well for his new role. His collaborative and thoughtful approach makes him a valuable addition to Youth and Family Services.

These appointments bring skilled professionals to Burlington’s fire, engineering, and youth and family services departments.
