The school year is off to a great start at Fox Hill! On August 30, 2021, first through fifth grade started their school year. Kindergarten followed with their first day on September 7, 2021. We currently have 476 students spread amongst 27 classrooms. We are welcoming back 81 students who were fully remote last school year. This year provides unique challenges and exciting opportunities. We are still adhering to Covid-19 protocols which include continued mask wearing, social distancing, and eating lunch in the classrooms. Even with these challenges, the Fox Hill staff has welcomed students and started building a classroom community. We continue to emphasize the social emotional well being of students while simultaneously focusing on student learning.
Morning Meetings
Morning meetings are a core part of the schedule at Fox Hill for all grade levels. As we continue to work through the Covid-19 pandemic, morning meetings are an essential social-emotional part of a students day. Using the Responsive Classroom model as a foundation, teachers hold a class community meeting each morning. The meeting consists of everyone being greeted, students sharing important events from their lives, and a team building activity or game. Morning meeting is a time where a classroom community is built. Teachers and students are able to learn about each other and work together.
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support program (PBIS)
Our PBIS system, Be the 1, is up and running. Be the 1 is a positive behavioral support system that was created to celebrate our school values. The values at Fox Hill are safety, kindness, respect, and responsibility. Students receive tickets when a staff member sees them demonstrating one of our values. Each week a ticket is randomly picked for each grade level and recognized during our morning announcements. Our first Be the 1 winners were announced on Friday, September 10.
