Obituary: Beloved Family Woman and Active UCC Member, Jane N. Raymond, 90

Jane (Nord) Raymond, wife of longtime Burlington Planning Board member and Recreation Commissioner Paul Raymond, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7. She was 90 years old. Jane attended UMASS Amherst where she met her husband, Paul.

The couple moved to Burlington in 1959 and it wasn’t long before they were involved in town politics and the United Church of Christ in Burlington. Jane was known as the coffee hour Queen and Greeter extraordinaire at Church. According to her obituary, “She provided the after-church coffee hour for close to 30 years. Her mission was to provide sustenance, comfort, a place to chat & make people feel included. Very few people walked through the church door and were not greeted by her and introduced to others.”

Jane loved her family and all her friends. She was the loving mother of Debra Raymond & her partner Kathy Hill, Nancy Richards & her husband Steve, and Peter Raymond & his wife Maureen. Jane was also a proud grandmother and great grandmother.

“Both she & Paul have a special spot in their heart for Bar Harbor Maine,” her obituary reads. “They went every summer (except 2 covid years) for 47 years. Most of the time it was just the 2 of them, but it was so special when their family joined them.”  The most important part of Jane’s life was her family, and as it expanded, she was thrilled to have more people to love and care about.

At a recent Recreation Commission meeting Chair Steve Nelson asked for a moment of silence.

“I think we should all recognize all of the contributions that family has made and sacrifices they have made over the year,” said Nelson.
