Otto M. Contardi, Jr., a longtime Burlington educator who spent decades serving students at Burlington High School, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 1. He was 96.
He began his career in education as a history teacher in Abington before finding his professional home in Burlington. At Burlington High School, he spent decades shaping young minds, first as a history teacher, then as department chair, and ultimately as associate principal before retiring in 2000.
According to his obituary, Contardi was remembered as a disciplined, fair, and devoted educator whose impact extended beyond the classroom. Over the years, he helped shape generations of Burlington students and earned the respect of both students and colleagues.
Contardi was also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He was married to his wife, Cynthia, for 63 years, and was a proud father and grandfather.
In 2019, BNEWS shared a story on Contardi’s 90th birthday, when former students gathered outside his home on New Year’s Day to surprise him by singing “Happy Birthday.”
