Parks & Rec Adds Therapeutic Recreation Specialist

The Recreation Commission voted unanimously to appoint Tia Zanardi as a new Therapeutic Recreation Specialist with the Burlington Parks and Recreation Department.

Parks and Recreation Director Brendan Egan told the commission the position was approved as part of the budget at May Town Meeting and follows an interview process involving several candidates.

Zanardi is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and currently serves as the Inclusion Specialist for the Haverhill YMCA. A graduate of Regis College, she also completed an internship in community recreation with the Lexington Recreation Department.

Commissioner David Norden highlighted the importance of the role.

“I would just like to say to the community that having another certified therapeutic recreation specialist is a huge position for the town. The Recreation Commission and our staff. Our therapeutic staff does an unbelievable job. I’m sure that you guys did a very thorough interview with Tia. So, this is a very huge hire for the town of Burlington,” said Norden.

Zanardi is set to begin July 1, 2026.
