Photo of the Week: A Beautiful Flower with a Name of Uncertain Origins

potw raspberry lilly

Another week, another photo to highlight.

This week’s photo is another in our very popular category of submission highlighting the beauty of nature. It was sent in by Phil Gallagher and shows a raspberry lily flower. Interesting fact, the raspberry derives its name from either the mid-15th century word “raspie” that means “a sweet rose-colored wine”, the Anglo-Latin term “vinum raspeys” or from the Germanic term “raspoie” that means “thicket.” It seems like there is some debate on the matter.

Thanks for the photo, Phil!
