Photo of the Week: Tulips – A Pretty Flower with a Long History

image

Another week, another photo to highlight!

This week’s photo features another sign of spring. It was sent in by BNEWS Anchor Phil Gallagher and shows a pair of tulips growing in his garden. The flower has quite a history – The name “tulip” is thought to be derived from a Persian word for turban, which it may have been thought to resemble by those who discovered it. Tulips originally were found in a band stretching from Southern Europe to Central Asia, but since the seventeenth century have become widely naturalized and cultivated.

Thanks for the photo, Phil!

We’d like to see your photos. They could be of your Spring activities, a family trip, or just everyday moments. Whatever you think is interesting and would like to share, send your photos to bcat@bcattv.org.
