On Thursday, June 13, you’re invited to donate to a Red Cross blood bank at Grand View Farm, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. It’s a Battle of the Badges competition, which means when you donate, you can tell your provider whether you’re donating on behalf of the Burlington Fire Department or the Burlington Police Department.
Last year, the effort raised 59 units of blood, and the police came out on top.
“There’s always a critical blood shortage in the summer,” BPD Lieutenant Glen Mills, who organizes the event, told BNEWS last year. “When I heard about this idea I said that’s something that we have to do. This is why we got into this job, you know, to help people, perform public service.”
Since the event began in 2018, the police have won four times and the fire department has won twice.
