Red Devil Fall Sports: Red Devil Football, Girls Volleyball Seasons End In Playoffs

RED DEVIL FOOTBALL PLAYOFF JOURNEY ENDS IN HEARTBREAK After their first playoff win since 2015, the Red Devils Football team lost 28-21 in the Elite Eight round in Tewksbury on Nov 10. Burlington will have their final game of the season with Bedford High School at 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, at Varsity Field. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL DEFEAT DUXBURY, SEASON ENDS IN LONGMEADOW Lady Devils Volleyball shut out Duxbury 3-0 in the Round of 16 of the MIAA D2 Playoff Tournament on Nov. 7. The girls advanced to the quarterfinals on Nov. 10 in Longmeadow, where they were shut out 0-3 in the sets, ending there season. Four seniors are departing from the team: Lauren Saia, Haleigh Collins, Ria Gandhi and Keira Riley. BOYS CROSS COUNTRY COMPETE IN MIAA D2 STATE QUALIFIER The Red Devils boys Cross Country team had seven athletes compete in the D2 State Qualifier at Wrentham Development Center on Nov. 11. Here were the results:

The team advances to the All State Championship Meet on Nov. 18 in Devens, MA. WOBURN/BURLINGTON SWIM SEASON ENDS WITH STATE CHAMPIONSHIP MEET The combined Woburn and Burlington swim team were at MIT over this past weekend for the MIAA D2 State Championship meet. The team had school records in both the 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay. Here were the results of the meet:

200 Yard Free Medley Relay: 8th place, 2:04.30 200 Yard Freestyle: 9th place, Sarah Herbst, 2:08.77 100 Yard Freestyle: 8th place, Kayleigh McCarthy, 58.56 500 Yard Freestyle: 5th place, Ryley McCarthy, 5:47.76 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, 6th place, 1:48.91 100 Yard Backstroke: 13th place, Sarah Herbst, 1:06.43, and 15th place, Ryley McCarthy, 1:07:57 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, 9th place, 4:02:07

Five seniors from Burlington are graduating from the team: Nora Crossman, Julia DeVito, Renee Flett, Leah Peterman-Polcari and Ella Woods. Maria Brito, Sarah Herbst and Desara Vladasi are the three seniors from Woburn.

Robert Parris

Robert Parris is BCAT’s Sports and Features Reporter. Robert first got involved with BCAT in January 2016 as a volunteer news reporter. Throughout the year, as a volunteer, he was busy developing his technical skills at the studio and his ENG skills in the field. In the summer of 2017, Robert joined the team full-time. He quickly settled into his role, providing all of the production support for our news programs, as well as providing weekly sports highlights. Robert also produces a weekly feature for BNEWS, as well as a monthly show called, BNEWS Sports Hub, and BCAT’s Game of the Week.
