TRACK TEAMS SWEEP WILMINGTON IN SEASON OPENERS
The Burlington High School girls and boys outdoor track teams each opened their seasons with decisive victories over Wilmington last Wednesday.
The girls team earned an 83 – 52 win with strong performances across all track and field events. Briana Thomas won the 100 meter dash, with Sammy Cicolini taking second. Olivia DiRienzo finished first in the 200 meter dash. Leila Gilligan had a standout day, winning both the 100 hurdles and the 400 meter run, while Grace Conte captured first in the two mile, and Lyla Kuhn won the 400 hurdles.
In the field events, Thomas and DiRienzo finished first and second in the triple jump, while Avery Callahan and Cassidy Hanlon claimed the top two spots in the shot put. Burlington also won both relay races to seal the season-opening victory.

The boys team dominated from start to finish in a commanding 104 – 32 win, taking first place in 14 of 16 events. Matt Conte won the 400 hurdles, Roy Kanyike took first in the mile, and Leon Sekandi earned victories in both the hurdles and high jump. Steven Dalalelis swept the sprint races with wins in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, while Arun Nagappan won the 800 meter run, and Liam Poland finished first in the two mile.
In the field, Perkins Augustin won the shot put, Shane Sheehan took first in the long jump, Ryan Brooks claimed the javelin, and Ethan Tedesco finished first in the discus. The boys also swept both relay events to complete their dominant performance.
Both Burlington teams return to action Thursday when they host Watertown, with each squad looking to move to 2 and 0 on the season.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL WIN BACK-TO-BACK MATCHES
Burlington boys volleyball won two out of three games last week.
First they lost at home 3-1 to the Winchester Red and Black last Monday, then defeated the Wakefield Warriors on the road in a 3-0 shutout last Wednesday, and then returned home to defeat the Medford Mustangs 3-1, this past Friday.
They will remain home this week with a current record of 5 and 2 against the 2 and 3 Arlington Spy Ponders on Tuesday and then the 3 and 2 Lexington Minutemen on Thursday.
GIRLS LACROSSE WIN IN OVERTIME OVER WATERTOWN
Burlington girls lacrosse won a wild game against the Watertown Raiders last Tuesday at home.
After four periods of play the game was tied at 12-12, and went into overtime. In the end, the Devils came out on top with a 13-12 victory over the Raiders.
They lost to the Lexington Minutemen 11-3 at home last Thursday, moving to an even record of 2-2.
This week, we will be featuring the team on our Game of the Week as they take on the 0 and 3 Melrose Red Hawks on Monday evening at 5:30 p.m. You can watch the game live on our YouTube channel.
After this matchup they will be on the road for the rest of the week with a game against the 2 and 3 Arlington Spy Ponders on Wednesday, and the 1 and 6 Pentucket Regional Panthers on Friday.
BOYS LACROSSE DEFEAT WATERTOWN IN BLOWOUT
Burlington boys lacrosse won back to back road matches last week, evening their record to 2 and 2.
Last Tuesday in Watertown, they defeated the Raiders in blowout fashion of 10-2 and then secured another win after a close game at Lexington last Thursday of 10-9.
They will have three matches this week with the 2 and 1 Melrose Red Hawks on Monday night, home against the 0 and 4 Arlington Spy Ponders on Wednesday, and a Saturday afternoon game against the 1 and 5 Nauset Regional Warriors.

BOYS BASEBALL SEASON BEGINS WITH MIXED RESULTS
The Boys baseball are 1 and 2 after having three games under their belt.
Last Monday, they opened the season at home against the Reading Rockets. The Red Devils were down 6-0 going into the bottom of the fifth, but a comeback attempt took place when they scored 4 runs, making the score 6-4. However the Rockets would score three more runs in the following inning, winning handedly 9-4.
Last Wednesday, Burlington got their first win of the season with a blowout score of 19-1 on the road in Watertown. Wow! Since there is a mercy rule in high school baseball, the game ended after 5 innings.
They continued their road game stretch at Lexington last Friday and lost by one point, 7-6.
Burlington will have three games this week: on the road against the 1 and 1 Melrose Red Hawks on Tuesday, at home against the 2 and 2 Arlington Spy Ponders on Thursday, and on the road at the 1 and 1 Bedford Buccaneers on Saturday.
GIRLS SOFTBALL SHUTOUT WATERTOWN
Girls softball also began its season last week, traveling to take on the Reading.
Girls Softball started the week with a 9-3 loss on the road in Reading on Monday.
They regrouped and won in a huge blowout of 14-2 against the Watertown Raiders at home last Wednesday.
Last Thursday, they were shutout on the road against the Andover Golden Warriors, 14-0 and lost to the Lexington Minutemen 14-1 at home last Friday.
Burlington is now 1-3 and will be at home against the 1 and 3 Melrose Red Hawks on Tuesday, and at the 0 and 4 Arlington Spy Ponders on Thursday.
GIRLS & BOYS TENNIS STILL SEARCHING FOR FIRST WIN
The Girls tennis team lost back-t0-back matches 0-5 last week, first to the Lexington Minutemen at home on Monday, and then on the road at the Melrose Red Hawks last Wednesday.
Junior Therese Kosinski won her singles match against the Arlington Spy Ponders in the 4-1 loss this past Friday.
Burlington now falls to 0 and 3, and will be on the road this week against the 2 and 2 Wakefield Warriors on Tuesday, and at the 2 and 3 Wilmington Wildcats on Thursday.
The Boys tennis team is also searching for their first win after starting 0 and 4.
They lost on the road 0-5 to the Lexington Minutemen last Monday, and at home against the Melrose Red Hawks 2-3 last Wednesday. Freshman Arnav Jhumat and sophomore Casey Shannon won in their singles matches against Melrose.
Burlington lost two more matches 0-5 last week, first at the Bedford Bucs on Thursday, then at home against the Arlington Spy Ponders this past Friday.
They will have three matches at home this week against the 2 and 1 Reading Rockets on Monday, 2 and 1 Wakefield Warriors on Tuesday and the 2 and 3 Wilmington Wildcats on Thursday.
