Red Devil Round Up: Basketball Hockey Teams Prepare for Post Season Showdowns

GIRLS BASKETBALL HOST LOWELL IN PRELIMINARY ROUND
The Girls Basketball team is preparing for the Division 2 MIAA Playoff Tournament this week. The 27th seeded 12-8 Devils will be hosting the 38th seeded 13-7 Lowell Red Raiders in the preliminary round of the playoffs on Tuesday evening. If Burlington were to win they will be traveling to South High Community in Worcester for the Round of 32. That game is to be determined. 

BOYS BASKETBALL HOST CHICOPEE IN DIVISION 2 PLAYOFFS
The Boys Basketball team will be hosting the 18th seeded 14-6 Chicopee Comprehensive High in the Round of 32 this Friday evening. Burlington finished the regular season as the Middlesex League Champs and with a 14-6 record. They are the 15th seed in the playoffs and if they were to win against Chicopee they will travel to Mansfield who is the second seed.  

GIRLS GYMNASTICS COMPETE AT SECTIONALS
Girls Gymnastics competed at the Sectionals Championship on February 22 at Algonquin Regional High School. Burlington finished in 10th out of 12th place. The ladies came in at 7th place on the Balance Beam, 12th place on the Vault, 11th place on the Bars and 11th place on the Floor Exercise. Congrats on a great season ladies! 

DEVILS WRESTLERS COMPETED AT STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
Max Shvartsman, Cameron Bonnell and Josh Leavitt competed at the MIAA D2 State Tournament on February 22. Shvartsman won four out of his five matches in the 106 weight classes. Bonnell had three matches throughout the day and had one win defeating Tristan Forest of Whitman-Hanson. Leavitt lost both of his matches at the championship. Burlington came in 28th place out of 46. 

SHAY WOODBURY MAKES NEW SCHOOL RECORD AT STATES CHAMPIONSHIP
Red Devil Swimmer Shay Woodbury competed at the State Championship on February 22 at Boston University. Woodbury competed in two events that day, the 100 Freestyle and the 100 Backstroke. In the freestyle Shay placed 23rd overall with a PR time of 51.34 seconds. In the backstroke, Shay placed 9th overall with a time of 55.56, which is a new school record! Congratulations Shay! 

GIRLS HOCKEY CLASH WITH BEVERLY IN PLAYOFFS
Girls Hockey finished the regular season at 14-6 after a 3-2 win against Canton last Wednesday. Goals in the game were scored by Cailtyn Tremblay with two and Chloe Rabazzi with one. The Middlesex League Freedom Division Champs can now focus on the upcoming D2 playoff tournament.  Burlington is the fifth seed and will host 28th seeded 8-12 Beverly on Wednesday evening at the Ice Palace. 

BOYS HOCKEY ON ROAD FOR FIRST ROUND OF PLAYOFFS
Boys Hockey defeated Medford 3-1 in the consolation round of the Ed Cahoon Tournament last Wednesday evening. Goals in the game were made by Ryan McWhinnie, Daniel Hanafin with his first career goal and Aiden Shanahan. The 11-8-1 Devils will be on the road for the Round of 32 of the Division 1 postseason tournament against the 14th seeded 8-12 Saint John’s Preparatory on Wednesday evening. 

BOYS INDOOR TRACK COMPETED  AT MEET OF CHAMPIONS
Krish Almeida and Ryan Brooks of the Boys Indoor Track team competed at the MIAA Track & Field Meet of Champions this past weekend. Almeida competed in the 1,000 Meters. He placed 15th with a PR of 2:35. Brooks competed in the Long Jump where he placed 10th with a jump of 21’1″. Burlington will continue the season at the Massachusetts Track Coaches Association Girls and Boys Pentathlon on Tuesday afternoon.
