Red Devil Round Up: Girls Gymnastics Remain Undefeated, Red Devil Swimmer Shay Woodbury Has New School Record

GIRLS BASKETBALL LOSE IN HEARTBREAKER
The girls basketball team had two games last week against Stoneham and Watertown. The girls won on the road against Stoneham 40-28 and the top scorers were Savanna Scali with 13 points, Merin Jones with 10, Erin Reilly with 10 and Zarah Ochi with 5. Burlington lost in a heartbreaker of 52-50 during a double overtime period against Watertown on the road. Top scorers in the game were Savanna Scali with 21 points and Erin Reilly with 13. 

Burlington is currently 9-6 and will be on the road this week against Melrose on Tuesday and then a home game against Wakefield on Friday. With only a couple of weeks left in the regular season the Devils are third in the Middlesex Freedom league standings. The two teams currently ahead of the Devils are the 12-3 Wakefield Warriors leading the league and 9-6 Watertown Raiders are second. 

BOYS BASKETBALL DEFEAT WATERTOWN
Boys Basketball were also on the road this past week against Stoneham and Watertown. Burlington won handedly against Stoneham 65-50 with top scorers Matt Gray with 17 points, Anthony Gerrior with 15, Cole Shannon with 13 and Leon Sekandi with 10. Last Friday the Devils lost 57-45 against Watertown. Top scorers were Matt Gray with 11 points and Jack Mercier with 8. 

Burlington will be on the road in Melrose on Tuesday then return home for Wakefield on Friday. The boys are second in their division at 9-5, with the 10-5 Wilmington Wildcats leading at the top. 

UNDEFEATED STREAK CONTINUE FOR GIRLS GYMNASTICS
Girls Gymnastics continue their winning streak now at 7-0 this year, after a 131 to 122 win against Stoneham on January 30. Burlington will finish the regular season in Reading on Wednesday evening and then host the Middlesex League Championship on February 10.

DEVILS WRESTLING COMPETE IN CAPITOL CITY TOURNAMENT
Burlington Wrestling defeated Keefe Technical 44-33 on January 29. Max Schvartsman (106 wt. class), Lukas Abreu (132 weight. class), Cameron Bonnell (138 wt. class) Noah Farrow (144 wt. class), Connor McElroy (150 wt. class), Davi Tonani (165 wt. class), Christian Im (190 wt. class) and Josh Leavitt (215 wt. class) all won their matches. Last Thursday the team was home against Wakefield celebrating their five seniors that night as well: Tyler Vadnais, Noah Farrow, Noah Nicholson, Vivek Patel and manager Julia Shvartsman. The team lost 50-19 however, Max Shvartman (106 wt. class), Cameron Bonnell (138 wt. class) Noah Farrow (144 wt. class) and Davi Tonani (165 wt. class) won their matches that evening. The Devils competed in the Capitol City Classic this past weekend. Burlington came out of the classic with 20 wins and finished 13th out of 31 teams. You can check out the full results here.

They are currently 4-18, and will be on the road in Watertown on Thursday evening. 

SHAY WOODBURY MADE NEW BHS RECORD AT ML CHAMPIONSHIP
Red Devil Swimming competed at the Middlesex League Championship on January 30. Shay Woodbury came in first place in the 100 meter backstroke at 56.36 seconds. This was a new record set by him previously held at 57.77 back in December.

GIRLS HOCKEY CELEBRATE TREMBLAY ON SENIOR NIGHT
Girls hockey were on the road last week against Winchester on January 29, losing by 1-3. The goal in the game was scored by Chloe Rabazzi. Burlington returned home on February 1 for senior night against Stoneham celebrating their one senior Caitlyn Tremblay. As for the game the team won in a blowout of 5-1. Emma Steiner had three goals, Sofia Cleary and Cailtyn Tremblay each had one goal. 

Burlington is currently 7-6, and will be on the road in Winthrop on Wednesday and Melrose on Saturday. The Lady Devils stand at second place in their division with the Melrose Raiders at the top at 9-5. 

BOYS HOCKEY WIN CLOSE MATCH ON SENIOR NIGHT
Boys hockey also faced off against  Winchester and Stoneham this past week. The Devils were shutout 2-0 against Winchester. Burlington had their senior night festivities in the home game against Stoneham. Seniors Camden Shanahan, Jake Sloan, Quinn McDonald, Nolan Jennings, Brady Yutkins and Sean Torpey were recognized. In the game, Torpey scored the lone goal in the one to nothing win. 

Burlington is currently 7-6-1 and will be at home against Watertown on Wednesday and away in Melrose on Saturday. The Red Devils stand at second place in their division with the 9-6 Stoneham Spartans at the top. 

TRACK TEAMS COMPETE IN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP AND QUALIFIER MEET THIS WEEK
Girls and boys indoor track are competing in two meets this week, the Middlesex League Championship on Monday and the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Qualifier Meet on February 8.
