GIRLS GYMNASTICS STILL UNDEFEATED
Lady Devils Gymnastics continue to defeat opponents one meet at a time, winning against Winchester 132 to 131 on January 7 and 134 to 131 against Melrose on January 10. The team improves to 3-0 and will have a home meet against Wakefield on Thursday night.
BOYS BASKETBALL WIN OVER WAKEFIELD WITH SECONDS TO SPARE
The boys basketball team had very close matchups this past week on the road against Arlington on January 7 and Wakefield on the 10th. Against Arlington the team lost by just one point 54-53, with top scorers: Matt Gray 19 points and his brother Justin had 17. It was a wild finish against Wakefield with the team coming out of the game victorious by just one point again! 51-50. Top scorers in this matchup were Leon Sekandi with 12 points, Anthony Gerrior 10 and Ryan Ellis with 10. Ellis scored the game winner with seconds to spare as well. Burlington improves to 6-2 overall, they will be at home against Belmont on Tuesday evening.
BOYS SWIMMING WIN FIRST MEET
Red Devil Swimming secured their first win of the season 88-79 against Winchester last Friday. Burlington improves their record to 1-3 and will have a home meet against Melrose on Thursday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL LOSE BACK TO BACK GAMES
The girls basketball team had two matchups this past week at home against Arlington on January 7 and on the road in Wakefield on the 10th. In the Arlington game, the girls fell short of a comeback as lost by a score of 45-41. Top scorers from the Arlington game were Savanna Scali with 18 points, Erin Reilly with 8 and Ava Sicari with 7. At Wakefield the team lost by a score of 40-33 with the top scorers being Scali with 13 points and Reilly with 11. Burlington falls to 5-3 and will be on the road in Belmont on Tuesday. DEVILS WRESTLING COMPETE WITH MELROSE ATTEND EASTERN CLASSIC AND WEYMOUTH INVITATIONAL
Burlington Wrestling lost to Melrose 58-16 last Wednesday evening. You can watch the meet in its entirety here.
Max Shvartsman and Cameron Bonnell competed in the Eastern States Classic this past weekend. Schvartman (106 wt. class) lost both of his matches to Cole Desiano and Owen Blair. Bonnell (138 wt. class) also lost in his matches as well to Alex Amorozino and Nate Racz.
The team competed in the Weymouth Invitational on January 11. Burlington finished the day with seven wins. Shvartman (106 wt. class) placed second and Cameron Bonnell (138 wt. class) placed fifth. Josh Leavitt (215 wt. class) and Connor McElroy (150 wt. class) both had three wins against their opponents. Christos Tasiopoulos (157 wt. class) and Tyler Vadnais (285 wt. class) both had two wins, while Kai Gong (126 wt. class) and Noah Farrow (144 wt. class) both had one win each.
Burlington finished 13 out of 23 teams. The Devils are 3-12 overall and will be on the road in Andover on Wednesday evening.
HOCKEY TEAMS COMPETE IN THREE MATCHUPS
Girls hockey had three games this past week, beginning with three to two win against Leominster on January 8. Goals in the game were from: Caitlyn Tremblay with one and Sofia Cleary had two.
It was a busy weekend for the team as they hosted Melrose on the 11th and Boston Latin Academy on the 12th. Burlington had a five to four loss against Melrose. Goals in the game were scored by Sofia Cleary with three and Caitlyn Tremblay with one. After a hard fought battle the team returned the next day to shutout Boston Latin with an eight to zero win. Goals were scored by: Emma Steiner with four, Caitlyn Tremblay had two, Ava Ciccolini and Shayla Kocur each had one goal. Burlington improves to 5-3 and will be on the road against Wakefield on Tuesday night.
Boys hockey had three games this past week against Newburyport, Watertown and Melrose. To start it off, the team defeated Newburyport four to two on January 6. Goals in the game were scored by: Nick Tulipano who had his first career goal that evening, Aidian Shanahan, Ryan McWhinnie and James Gordon each scored one goal as well. Burlington had a 2-2 tie against Watertown on January 8, with Giacomo Berardinelli scoring both of the goals. The Devils finished the week with a shutout Saturday at home against Melrose. James Gordon had both of the goals in the two to nothing win.
They are now 4-3-1 and will be on the road Tuesday night against Wakefield.
TRACK TEAMS COMPETED WITH WAKEFIELD
Girls and boys indoor track had a meet with the Wakefield Warriors on January 7. The girls defeated their opponent 59-51, improving their record to 2-2 this season. It wasn’t the same for the boys, as they lost to Wakefield 54 to 46, moving their record to 2-2.
The teams attended the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Northeast Invitational over the weekend.
