Red Devil Roundup: Savanna Scali Reaches 1,000 Career Points, Devils Wrestling at Colter Abely Tournament, Track Teams Finish Regular Seasons

SAVANNA SCALI MAKES IT TO 1,000 CAREER POINTS
The girls basketball team started the week on the road in Belmont on January 14 with a tough loss 57-53. Top scorers were Savanna Scali with 21 points, Erin Reilly with 13, Merin Jones with 9 and Ava Sicari with 8. It was a big game at home January 17 against Wilmington, as Savanna Scali surpassed 1,000 points in her career. Anthony Matos caught up with her on her big night. Burlington fought hard to come out with a victory  and got it with a one point win, 37-36. Scali was the top scorer with 17 points. Other top scorers were Erin Reilly and Ava Sicari, both with 7. They are currently at 6-4, and face the Woburn Tanners this week. Scali is just three points away from holding the all-time points record in BHS Girls Basketball history, stay tuned to BCAT as she makes history.

BOYS BASKETBALL BOUNCE BACK AGAINST ARLINGTON
Boys Basketball had two matchups at home this past week also against Belmont and Wilmington. Belmont defeated the Devils by four points 56-52 in dramatic overtime game. Top scorers in the game were  Matt Gray with 27 points and  Anthony Gerrior with 15. They had a strong victory with a 52-39 victory over Wilmington. Top scorers in the game were Anthony Gerrior with 16 points, Matt Gray with 13 and Cole Shannon with 11. Burlington improves to 7-3, and they will be on the road against Woburn this week. 

DEVILS WRESTLING COMPETE WITH ANDOVER ATTEND COLTER ABELY TOURNAMENT
Burlington Wrestling lost to Andover 70-7 on January 15. The team competed at the Colter Abely Tournament in Connecticut January 18th, coming in fourteenth place overall. Max Shvartsman placed fifth (106 wt. class) and Cameron Bonnell also placed fifth (138 wt. class). Chris O’Divin, Davi Tonani (157 wt. classes) and Josh Leavitt (215 wt. class) won both of their two matches. Connor McElroy and Devin Prajapati (150 wt. classes) also won both of their two matches. The Devils are 3-13 and will be at home against Woburn on Wednesday evening. 

BOYS SWIMMING FINISH REGULAR SEASON THIS WEEK
Red Devil Swimming lost by twelve points 87-75 in the meet against Melrose on January 16, but had a number of swimmers who came in first place. 

100 Yard Backstroke: 
Shay Woodbury – 57.90 seconds

100 Yard Breaststroke:
Carl Martin – 1:07

400 Yard Free Relay team:
Mark Seltzer, Carl Martin, Shay Woodbury – 3:58

They are now  1-4 and will close out the regular season with a meet against Lexington on Wednesday afternoon. 

GIRLS HOCKEY DEFEAT WAKEFIELD
Girls hockey were on the road last week against Wakefield on January 14, blowing out the Warriors 5-1. Goals were scored by: Chloe Rabazzi with three, Ava Ciccolini and Caitlyn Tremblay each had one goal. They improve to 6-3 and will have a home game against Belmont on Wednesday night. 

BOYS HOCKEY WIN BACK TO BACK VERSUS MIDDLESEX LEAGUE RIVALS
Boys hockey had two games last week. The team defeated Wakefield on the road in a shutout of 4-0 on January 14. Goals in the game were scored by: Connor McElroy with two, Jake Sloan and Nick Tulipano each had one goal. Burlington kept the momentum going with a big 4-1 win against Wilmington on January 18 here at home. Goals in the game were scored by Jake Sloan, Nick Tulipano, James Gordon and Nolan Jennings The team is now 6-3-1 and will remain home for a game against Belmont on Wednesday evening. 

TRACK TEAMS FINISH REGULAR SEASON ATTEND JAMES KALPERIS RELAYS
Girls and boys indoor track finished out the regular season with the Stoneham Spartans on January 15th.  Both teams secured a win with the girls winning 59-41 and the boys 70-30. Both of the teams had a regular season record of 3-2 and a number of athletes from each of the squads came in first place. 

600 Meters:

2 Mile:
Ashleigh DeMartinis – 12:07

55 Meter Dash:
Sean Cox – 6.81

300 Meters:
Ryan Brooks – 37.31

1000 Meters:
Roy Kanyike – 2:43

Both teams competed in the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Division 3 James Kalperis Relays on January 18th.
The girls team were awarded medals in the following events: Shuttle Dash, 4×400 and 4×800 relays and the Shot Put. They qualified for the state championship in the 4×200 and 4×400 relays. Here were the results of those. 

4×200:
12th place – 1:53

4×400:
4th place – 4:19 

The boys finished in fourth place, while the girls came in eleventh place. Victories were made by the boys Shot Put team, with Chris Williams placing third and throwing 14.39 meters. The Long Jump team has a new BHS record, winning the competition by almost 2 feet.
