Sophomore captains Max Shvartsman and Cameron Bonnell each captured state titles in standout performances that showcased resilience and determination on the biggest stage.
At 106 pounds, Shvartsman entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed and pinned his way to the finals. In the championship match, he faced undefeated Lawson Giove of Whitman-Hanson and trailed 7-0 after the first period. Early in the second, Shvartsman secured a reversal, put Giove on his back, and earned the fall just 2:35 into the match to complete a dramatic comeback victory.

At 165 pounds, Bonnell opened with dominant 7-0 and 8-0 wins. In the semifinals, he faced top-seeded Cody Coonrod of Northbridge. Coonrod had defeated Bonnell 7-0 earlier this season, but this time Bonnell turned the tables. A key takedown at the end of the second period proved decisive, and he held on for a hard-fought 5-4 win. In the finals, Bonnell controlled the match against Ryan Sexton of Agawam, and earned a 6-1 victory to secure the first high school tournament championship of his career.
Burlington also received contributions from Connor McElroy (150 pounds) and Josh Leavitt (215 pounds), who each won matches on Friday, while Davi Tonani (157 pounds) and Jordan Ho (120 pounds) competed hard for the Devils.
With their wins, Shvartsman and Bonnell became the 22nd and 23rd wrestlers in program history to win state titles and just the ninth and 10th sophomores to accomplish the feat. Their performances powered a milestone finish for Burlington and signal strong momentum for the program moving forward.
