Red Devil Spring Roundup: MIAA Division 2 Playoffs Begin for Red Devil Teams

GIRLS/BOYS OUTDOOR TRACK COMPETE AT MIAA MEET OF CHAMPIONS OVER THE WEEKEND
The girls and boys track teams competed at two-day MIAA Meet of Champions of June 1st and 3rd. On the girls team, BHS graduate Grace Hanafin came in first place in the Long Jump and was named the All State Champ! Congrats, Grace! Other athletes who competed was junior Cora Laverty in the 100m hurdles, coming in 25th place with a time of 16.56. Grace’s sister, junior Hope Hanafin finished in 15th place and clocked in at 1:00.02 in the 400m. As for the boys, BHS graduate Rithikh Prakash had a season best in the 2-mile, coming in 6th place at 9:18.11. The 4×800 relay team of Eric Sekyaya, Colin Irwin, Connor Herrera and Ryan Moradei ran 8:07.00 and came in 8th place.

SOFTBALL SHUTS OUT PEMBROKE IN PLAYOFFS
The (16-4 overall) 4th seeded softball team was at home at Marvin Field on June 5 against the 29th seeded (12-8) Pembroke High School. Pembroke was in the Preliminary Round last week and defeated the 36th seeded Plymouth South by a score of 8-2. In the game against Pembroke, the girls shutout them out, 4-0. They advance to the “Round of 16” and will host Shepherd Hill on June 7 at Marvin Field.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL BLANKED IN SETS AGAINST O’BRYANT
Boys volleyball was the 27th seeded (13-7) heading into the MIAA Division 2 Playoff Tournament last week. The Red Devils traveled to the 6th seeded (16-4) O’Bryant High School in Roxbury in the “Round of 32″where they were shutout 0-3 in the sets, ending their season. Six seniors are departing: Zach Aloisi, James Burke, Joseph Mirra, Theo Visco, Warmillon Filho and Sebastian D’Amico. We wish everyone the best of luck in their futures! 

GIRLS LACROSSE GET PAST URSULINE ACADEMY
Girls lacrosse (13-5 overall) are seeded 9th in the MIAA Playoff tourney and were at Varsity Field on June 5  against the 24 seed (17-3) Ursuline Academy in the “Round of 32.” Burlington defeated U.A. with a 15-4 final. They will compete in the “Round of 16” in Grafton on June 7.

BOYS LACROSSE DEFEAT WESTFIELD
The 12 seed (13-5) Red Devils competed at Varsity Field, June 5 against the 21st seed (9-8) Westfield High School, where they got the victory of 17-7. Burlington will travel to Billerica in the “Round of 16” this week.

BASEBALL ON THE ROAD IN WHITMAN
Boys baseball (10-10 overall and 28th seeded) traveled to the 5th seed (16-4) Whitman-Hansen Regional High School on June 5 in the “Round of 32” of the MIAA Division 2 Playoffs where the season came to an end in a shutout loss of 11-0. Jayce Singleton and Will Curtin on the two graduates from the 2023 class.

GIRLS TENNIS SEASON ENDS IN READING
Girls tennis (11-6 overall and 16th seed in the “Round of 32” of the playoffs) competed in Reading (9-7 and the 16th seeded) on May 31st. Burlington couldn’t get the job done, as they lost 2-3. Mason Alongi won both of her sets. Valerie Kin and Julianne Pascale are the senior athletes departing from the team. Good luck ladies on your endeavors. 

BOYS TENNIS ADVANCE TO “ROUND OF 16” IN MIAA TOURNEY
The Red Devils boys tennis team (14-4 overall) competed at Rahanis on June 1 in the “Round of 32” against the 26th seeded North Attleborough (9-9); They won 4-1. Winners in the match were Aditya Pathak, Soham Shah and Andrew Perl at singles. In the doubles matches, athletes were Krish Soni/ Arnesh Yeola. They advance to the “Round of 16” of the playoffs where they will host (5-11) 23rd seed Reading Memorial on June 6 at Rahanis.
