Red Devil Spring Sports: Lacrosse, Tennis Teams Earn Middlesex League Title

Here’s where the BHS spring teams stand as they enter the seventh week of their seasons: 

GIRLS AND BOYS LACROSSE TEAMS NAMED MIDDLESEX LEAGUE FREEDOM CHAMPS

The Boys and Girls lacrosse teams have been crowned Middlesex League Freedom Division Champs, the boys for the second consecutive year and the girls for the fourth consecutive year. The Lady Devils are 11-5 for the season after an 18-2 win over Wilmington and a 16-4 sin over Stoneham. Goals in the Wilmington victory were scored by Jillian Gillis (4), Charlize Collins (3) Ava Robitaille (3) CJ Tremblay (2) Elisabeth Delorey (2) Anna Viglione (1) Ashley Pinkham (1),  Ilex Fowler (1) and Caroline Russo (1). Goals against Stoneham were scored by Collins (4), Fowler (2), Delorey (2), Robitaille (2), Gillis (2) Hannah Taitelbaum (2) Emma Steiner (1) and Keira Storlazzi (1). The girls concludes the regular season with Weston on Monday, where they lost by a score of 16-10. Burlington will compete with Masconomet on Tuesday and Chelmsford on Thursday. Results forthcoming. In the division 2 MIAA Power Rankings, Burlington stands at 9 out of 55. 

The boys’ team is 13-4 after they defeated Wilmington and Stoneham 19-2 and 15-3 respectively. They’ll finish the regular season in North Andover on Thursday. In the division 3 MIAA Power Rankings, Burlington stands at 4 out of 61. 

GIRLS SOFTBALL NEARS SEASON END AHEAD
The Red Devils softball team has a 9-8 record in the season rankings after a 12-2 win over Melrose on May 15. The score for a game against Westfield has not been reported. Burlington has two more games left in the regular season, against Westford Academy on Tuesday and Bishop Fenwick on Friday. In the division 2 MIAA Power Rankings, Burlington is 28 out of 62. 

BOYS BASEBALL WIN THREE IN A ROW
The baseball team is 10-7 this season after three wins to Wilmington, 17-0, Stoneham, 10-2 and Bedford 9-1. Burlington closes out the regular season with Bedford on Tuesday and in the Brendan Grant Baseball Tournament in Belmont on Friday and Saturday. In the division 2 MIAA Power Rankings, Burlington stands at 26 out of 56. 

ONE MATCH LEFT IN GIRLS TENNIS’ REGULAR SEASON
The girls tennis team is 9-6 after a 4-1 loss to Wilmington on May 14. The doubles team of Therese Kosinski and Phoenix Mahoney was the only team to win a match. On May 16, the girls came away with a 3-2 win over Stoneham. Winners in the match were Mason Alongi in the singles match and the duos of Jules Piscatelli and Alessia Pedruzzi and Mahoney and Kosinski. Burlington lost to Arlington 4-1 on the 17th, with Mahoney and Kosinski winning in their matches. Bedford will be the final regular season meet on Wednesday. In the division 2 MIAA Power Rankings, Burlington stands at 9 out of 60. 

BOYS TENNIS EARNS MIDDLESEX FREEDOM TITLE
Boys tennis is 12-5 after wins over Wilmington 4-1 and 5-0 over Stoneham. Burlington lost to Arlington 4-1 on May 17 and got back in the win column 4-1, against Lincoln-Sudbury Regional. They also clinched the Middlesex League Freedom title. In the division 2 MIAA Power Rankings, Burlington stands at 7 out of 52. 

TRACK TEAMS FINISH REGULAR SEASON WITH LEAGUE MEET
Both the girls and boys track teams competed with Stoneham on May 9. In the boys meet they won by a score of 104.5 to 31.5. It marks the fifth consecutive undefeated spring track season for the devils. As for the girls, they won 85-51 and their record finished at 3-2 on themiddlesex league meet boys season.

Then, in the Middlesex League championships, the boys finished in third place with 94 points, while the girls finished in sixth place with 49 points. The top finishes for the boys were Ryan Brooks in the long jump and the javelin, and Julian Sacca in the shot put; second place came finishes from Sean Cox in the 100 meter, Chris Williams in the shot put and Leon Sekandi in the high jump. BOYS VOLLEYBALL COMPETE IN THREE MATCHES THIS WEEK
The Red Devil Volleyball team stands at 8-9 after back-to-back 3-0 wins against Salem on May 16 and Wakefield on May 18. Burlington finishes the regular season this week with matches against Woburn on Tuesday, Lexington on Thursday and Billerica on Friday. In the division 2 MIAA Power Rankings, Burlington stands at 22 out of 81. 

COED UNIFIED BASKETBALL REGULAR SEASON ENDS
Unified Basketball finished the regular season at 5-0 with wins against Melrose, Watertown, Stoneham, Reading and Lexington.  Burlington will be in Wakefield on May 22 for a Jamboree game.
