Red Devil Winter Roundup: Boys Basketball Upsets Wakefield in Regular Season Thriller

BOYS B-BALL UPSETS MIDDLESEX RIVAL, WAKEFIELD
Burlington (13-5 overall) lost to Melrose, 59-54, on Feb. 7. The Devils bounced back against Wakefield, 64-59, on Feb. 10. Click here to watch the highlights. Leading offensively was junior Cedric Rodriguez (25 pts.) and senior Eric Sekyaya (21 pts.)

Burlington is on the road at Wilmington High School on Feb. 14.

GIRLS B-BALL TAKE ON MELROSE AND WAKEFIELD
Burlington (7-10 overall) defeated Melrose by 13 pts.,53-40, on Feb. 7. Leading offensively was senior Alyvia Pena (17 pts.), sophomore Savanna Scali (17 pts.) and freshmen Sophia Marshall (10 pts.). The ladies lost over Wakefield, 61-30, on Feb. 10. Click here to watch the highlights. Leading offensively in the game was sophomore Savanna Scali (16 pts.)

Burlington will be on Wilmington on Feb. 14.

GYMNASTICS FINISH REGULAR SEASON IN STONEHAM
Lady Devils (7-1 overall) competed at Stoneham High School on Feb. 7. as they won by a score of 137. to 122. The ladies will compete at Stoneham High School on Feb. 7. 

The Middlesex League Meet is being held in Stoneham on Feb. 13. 

TRACK TEAMS COMPETE IN MSTCA LAST CHANCE MEET
Ten athletes competed in the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Meet over the weekend on Feb. 11. at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. Senior Inesh Parikh finished with a time of 1:31.12 in the 600 meter. This auto qualified him for the MIAA State Championship on Feb. 19. Freshmen Lucy Clement and junior Renee Lecomte did not qualify for the state championship. You can check out the full results for the girls and boys here. 

DEVILS WRESTLERS ATTEND SECTIONALS
The Burlington Wrestling team (7-12 overall) competed in the sectionals on Feb. 11. Seniors captains Marcus Tucci (2nd place) and Ahmad Kiswani (3rd place) qualified for the MIAA state wrestling tournament. The Devils finished the meet with 62 pts. You can check out the full results here. 

GIRLS HOCKEY SHUTOUT STONEHAM/WILMINGTON COMBINED TEAM
Burlington (10-4-2 overall) won in a shutout over the combined team of Stoneham/Wilmington, 3-0, on Feb. 8. Goal scorers were made by 8th grader Emma Steiner (1st goal), junior Abby Wojtaszek (2nd goal) and sophomore Caitlyn Tremblay (3rd goal).

Burlington is on the road against Wayland High School on Feb. 13.

BOYS HOCKEY COMPETE IN THIRD ROUND OF ED BURNS TOURNAMENT
Burlington (3-11-2 overall) had three games last week against Stoneham on Feb. 8., Watertown Feb. 11. and Waltham on Feb. 12.

In the game against Stoneham, the Devils were shutout, 1-0. Sophomore Nolan Jennings had one goal in the loss to Watertown, 2-1. Burlington won Waltham, 4-2, in the third round of the Ed Burns Tournament. Goals in the game were scored by by seniors Koby Sloan (1), Dillon O’ Reilly (2) and junior Charlie Andriolo (1).

Burlington will compete against Melrose High School on Feb. 15.

BOYS SWIMMING COMPETE IN DIVISION 2 NORTH SECTIONALS CHAMPIONSHIP MEET
The Devils spent the day at the Division 2 North Sectionals Championship Meet over the weekend. Senior Alex Genov finished with a time of 23.28 in the 50 Freestyle Relay which qualified him for the states meet. BNEWS has not received the rest of the swimming results.
