Red Devil Winter Round-Up: Boys Gymnastics Wins Second Consecutive MIAA State Title

BOYS GYMNASTICS WIN MIAA TITLE AT ALL STATES MEET
Red Devil Gymnastics (5-0 overall) competed at home against Newton North, Braintree and Lowell in the MIAA All States Meet on Feb. 3.  The event champs for the meet were Nathan Bunten: Floor Exercise (10 pts.), Parallel Bars (9.4 pts.), Noyal Benny: Pommel Horse (7.6 pts.), Devin Hazen: High Bars (7.5 pts.), Rings (8 pts.) and All Around (47.2 pts.). Lowell Lorenzo Leary won in the Vault event with a score of 9.5 pts. Congrats to all the athletes who competed in all-states. Graduating seniors from the team are Joshua Hollenbeck, Christian Katendae, Noyal Benny and Stephen Papagno. Stay tuned for the full meet of the MIAA All State on our BCATTV YouTube. 

GYMNASTICS SNEAK BY WILMINGTON
Lady Devils (6-1 overall) competed at home against Wilmington High School on Jan. 31. as they won in a close score of 140.1 to 139. The ladies will compete at Stoneham High School on Feb. 7.  

TRACK TEAMS COMPETE IN MIDDLESEX LEAGUE MEET
Both track teams competed  in the Middlesex League Meet on Feb. 6. at The Track at New Balance in Boston. The girls finished in third place with a score of 61.67 and the boys came in second with 69 points. You can check out all the results at the following link

In alumni news, BHS 2019 grad Rishabh Prakash broke the Cornell University school record by three seconds in the 3,000 meter with a time of 7:55.60. Congrats to Rishabh on this accomplishment!

DEVILS WRESTLING FINISH OUT SEASON
The Burlington Wrestling team (7-12 overall) lost against Keefe Tech, 39-30, on Feb. 1. with pins by Alex McGillivray, Jaden Alford and Marcus Tucci. The Red Devils finished the regular season in a tri-meet against Agawam 69-12 (loss), Marlboro 58-18 (loss) and Granby 51-24 (win) on Feb. 4. Pins in the meet were made by Ahmad Kiswani (Agawam), Tyler Vadnais (Agawam and Granby), Jaden Alford (Marlboro and Granby) Alex McGillivray (Granby), Emanick Carrasquillo (Granby), Tae-son Mun (Granby) and Marcus Tucci (Granby). Graduating seniors from the team are Marcus Tucci, Jaden Alford, Ahmad Kiswani and Molly Moroney. Foreign exchange student Roos Groesbeek, already left to go back to the Czech Republic in early January.

In alumni news, 2021 grad Cam Soda placed third in the Edinboro Wrestling Open in the 133 wt. class. Congrats to Cam and his continued success!

GIRLS HOCKEY TRAVELED TO LEXINGTON
Burlington (9-4-2 overall) won big over the combined team of Lexington/Watertown, 8-3, on Feb. 6.

Burlington is back home on Feb. 8. for a matchup against Stoneham.

 

BOYS HOCKEY COMPETE IN SECOND ROUND OF ED BURNS TOURNAMENT
Burlington (2-10-2 overall) had two games over the weekend against Wilmington on Feb. 4. and Walpole on Feb. 5. In the game against Wilmington, the Devils were shutout, 1-0. Burlington went head to head with Walpole the following day during the second round of the Ed Burns Tournament. Burlington had one goal made by senior Ryan Kane in the 5-1 Walpole loss. The Devils lost to Tewksbury in the first round of the Burns Tourney, 3-1, on Jan. 29.

Burlington will be at home against Stoneham High School on Feb. 8.

GIRLS B-BALL GET WINS OVER STONEHAM AND WATERTOWN
Burlington (6-9 overall)  defeated Stoneham 67-46  on Jan. 31. Leading offensively was senior Alyvia Pena (22 pts.), sophomores Savanna Scali (26 pts.- career high) and Madison King (12 pts.)  In addition, senior and captain Alyvia Pena became the Lady Devils Basketball all-time leading scorer in BHS history with 887 points. The record was previously held by Karen Grutchfield class of 1981. Watch here.  The Devils snuck by Watertown, 42-36, on Feb. 3. Leading offensively for the Devils were sophomore Savanna Scali (13 pts.), freshmen Sophia Marshall (10 pts.), seniors Alyvia Pena (9 pts.) and Cassidy Soohoo (6 pts.) 

Burlington will compete at Melrose High School on Feb. 7.

BOYS B-BALL LOSE BACK TO BACK MIDDLESEX GAMES
Red Devils (12-4 overall) lost by 1o pts to Stoneham, 74-64 on Jan. 31. and to Watertown 52-48 on Feb. 3. Burlington is looking to get back in the win column as they travel to Melrose High School on Feb. 7.

BOYS SWIMMING COMPETE AT  MIDDLESEX LEAGUE MEET
Burlington competed in the League Meet on Feb. 2. at Bentley College. The results have not been published.
