Red Devil Winter Round-Up: Devils Track Teams Win Middlesex League Freedom Division Titles

TRACK TEAMS WIN MIDDLESEX LEAGUE FREEDOM DIVISION
Both track teams competed in their final regular season meet against Wilmington on Jan. 26. at The Track at New Balance and clinched the Middlesex League Freedom Division Title. Both of the teams won big with the ladies (4-1 overall) 61-39 and the boys (5-0 overall) 76-24.  You can check out the entire results here.

Seniors Tyler Callahan, Patrick Gray, Elijah Wolinski, Anthony Abbott, Connor Herrera and juniors Colin Irwin, Dylan Giles and Julian Sacca have all qualified for the MIAA Division 3 Championship on Feb. 19.

The girls competed in the MSTCA Coaches Invitational on Jan. 28. at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. You can check out the full results here. Stay tuned for the full meet of the girls and boys track teams against Wilmington on our BCATTV YouTube. 

Both teams will be back at the Middlesex League 12 Championship meet on Feb. 6.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS PASS BY WOBURN AND WAKEFIELD
Lady Devils (5-1 overall) competed at home with two wins over Woburn, 138-128 and Wakefield 138-130 on Jan. 26.
Burlington will have their final home meet of the season against Wilmington High School on Jan. 31. 

BOYS GYMNASTICS REMAINS UNDEFEATED
Red Devil Gymnastics (4-0 overall) had a meet at Newton North on Jan. 25. against Braintree and  Newton North. Burlington came in first place with 126.9 points, Newton North (114.4) and Braintree (111.3) 

The Red Devils will have their final regular season meet of the season on Feb. 3. This meet will be livestreamed as part of the BCATTV’s Game of the Week on our Facebook page at 7 p.m.

DEVILS WRESTLING OUTSCORED BY WAKEFIELD, COMPETES IN CAPITAL CITY CLASSIC IN NH.
The Burlington Wrestling team (6-9 overall) lost against their Middlesex League rival the Wakefield Warriors 53-24, on Jan. 25. with a pin by Marcus Tucci.  Burlington competed against 29 other schools during the Capital City Classic in New Hampshire on Jan. 28.  The Devils came in 25th place out of 29th with 35 points. Ahmad Kiswani placed third in the 195 wt. class. For a full list of the results click here 

Senior Molly Moroney also placed 3rd in the Phillips Andover Girls Wrestling Tournament on Jan. 29. Burlington will be on the road on Feb. 1. for a meet against Keefe Technical High School.

GIRLS HOCKEY MOVE UP IN THE STANDINGS
Burlington (8-4-2 overall) ended up in a tie against Arlington High School, 3-3, on Jan. 25. Goals in the game came from sophomore Lexi McKinnon (1), juniors Shea McDonald (1) and Anna Viglione (1). The Devils bounced back against Belmont in a shutout win, 3-0, on Jan 28. Goals in the game came from  McKinnon (1),  sophomores Caitlyn Tremblay (1) and Katie Hayes (1).

The girls will have be back at the Burlington Ice Palace against Woburn on Feb. 1.

BOYS HOCKEY FALL TO ARLINGTON AND TEWKSBURY
Burlington (2-8-2 overall) competed against Arlington where they lost, 4-1, on Jan. 25. The lone goal in the game came from sophomore Seumas McMakin. The Red Devils went to Tewksbury where they lost by two, 3-1, on Jan. 29.

Burlington will be at home against Woburn on Feb. 1.

GIRLS B-BALL LOST TWO AT HOME THIS PAST WEEK
Burlington (4-9 overall) were defeated by Woburn, 55-44, on Jan. 24. Leading offensively was senior Alyvia Pena (14 points) sophomore Savanna Scali (14 points), senior Cassidy Soohoo (13 points). The girls suffered another loss against Wilmington, 49-30, on Jan. 27.

Burlington will be back at home against Stoneham on Jan. 31.

BOYS B-BALL GET BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN
Red Devils (12-2 overall) are back in the win column with wins over Woburn, 77-44, on Jan. 24. and Wilmington, 72-40, on Jan. 27. Leading offensively in the Woburn game were seniors seniors Eric Sekyaya (19 points), Ben Poehler (17 points), juniors Jaden Brehm (15 points), James Ellis (13 points) and Cedric Rodriguez (10 points). Against Woburn the offensive leaders from the game were Sekyaya (17 points), Poehler (15 points) and Brehm (12 points)

Burlington will be at home against Stoneham on Jan. 31.

BOYS SWIMMING FINISHES REGULAR SEASON
Burlington (2-5 overall) lost to Haverhill on Jan. 24., 91-71, in their final regular season meet of the year. The Devils are competing in the League Meet scheduled for Feb. 2. at Bentley College.Â
