Red Devil Winter Roundup: Sr. Molly Moroney Competes at Girls All-States Wrestling Tourney

MOLLY MORONEY COMPETES AT 2023 MIAA ALL STATE/GIRLS ALL STATE TOURNAMENT
Moroney was at Reading Memorial High School for the MIAA tourney on Feb. 24 and 25. Moroney had three wins and one loss in the 100 weight class and placed third. Her wins were against Jailyn Edmonds of Josiah Quincy School in Boston twice and Alison Sevene of Watertown. Her one loss was to Samantha Bertini of Ludlow. Molly was the first Devil to compete in the girls’ states. Congratulations to Molly on this accomplishment!

TRACK TEAMS COMPETE AT MIAA MEET OF CHAMPIONS
Athletes on both Burlington track teams competed at the MIAA Meet of Champions on Feb. 25. Senior Grace Hanafin was named the Massachusetts State Champion in her performance in the Long Jump, 17-8.50. In addition, a couple of athletes on the team were given Middlesex League Awards, including All Stars Cora Laverty (55m hurdles), Althea Wolinski (300m), Hope Hanafin (600m); and All Conference Grace Hanafin (300m) and Char Collins (long jump). The League MVP was given to Grace Hanafin. You can check out the full results for the girls and boys here. 

In other track news, Anthony Abbott (51.74), Colin Irwin (53.23), Dylan Giles (52.75) and Elijah Wolinski (50.87) ran with seven other college schools in the 1600 relay and had a school record of 3:28.55 in their performance on Feb. 26 in the Last Chance Indoor Qualifier at the BU Center.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS COMPETE AT SECTIONALS
Lady Devils Gymnastics (8-1 overall) competed in the MIAA Sectionals Tournament on Feb. 25 at Algonquin Regional High School. Burlington finished in seventh place out of 12 and came in with a score of 140.26. You can check out the full results team here. Individual results are here. The team will compete at the MIAA State Championship at Algonquin Regional High School on March 4. 

GIRLS HOCKEY HOSTING NORWELL
Burlington will begin the MIAA playoffs in the “Round of 32″ on March 1. against Norwell High School, at 6:10 p.m. at the Burlington Ice Palace. The Devils finished the season (14-4-2 overall) and are the ninth seed in the tournament.  Norwell is seeded 24th and finished the regular season at (9-9-2). This game will be livestreamed on the BCATTV Facebook page. 

BOYS HOCKEY CLOSES OUT SEASON IN CONSOLATION CAHOON TOURNEY
Burlington (5-14-2 overall) lost 3-2, on Feb. 22. in the consolation round of the Ed Cahoon Tournament against Medford. Goal scorers in the game were Koby Sloan (1) and Alex Healy (1). Eight seniors are graduating in the off-season, including Koby Sloan, Jayce Singleton, Jonathan Jay, Dillon O’Reilly, Ryan Kane, Will Curtin, Alex Healy and Arthur Welch. We wish all the seniors the best of luck!

BOYS BASKETBALL TRAVEL TO CANTON HIGH SCHOOL
Burlington will travel to Canton High School for a “Round of 32” MIAA Playoff matchup on March 3 at 6 p.m. The Red Devils finished the regular season at (15-5) and are the 19th seed. Canton finished the regular season at 10-10 and are the 14th seed in the playoffs. We wish Burlington the best of the luck! You can check out the game live by clicking here. 

GIRLS BASKETBALL HOST URSULINE ACADEMY
The ladies will be hosting a playoff game against Ursuline Academy in the preliminary round of the MIAA Tournament on Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. You can check out the game live here on our Facebook Page. Burlington finished the regular season at 9-11 and are the 26th seed. Ursuline Academy finished 10-10 and are the 39th seed.
