Red Devil Winter Sports: Recording Setting Week for Two Red Devil Teams

DEVILS WRESTLING OUTSCORED BY MELROSE
The Burlington Wrestling team (6-8 overall) lost against their Middlesex League rival the Melrose Red Raiders, 71-9 on Jan. 11 with pins by Ryan McGillivray and a match won by Ahmad Kiswani. The Devils competed at the Weymouth Invitational on Jan. 14 with Kiswani finishing in second place overall. Burlington came in 17th place out of 21 with a total of 60 points. Burlington will go to Woburn Memorial High School in a Wednesday evening contest on Jan. 18.

GIRLS HOCKEY BOUNCE BACK AFTER LOSS AGAINST ARLINGTON
Burlington (6-4 overall) were shutout in the game against Arlington High School but fell through, 2-0, at home on Jan 9. The team redeemed itself after a blowout win over Melrose, 9-2, on Jan 14.

The girls will have another home game against Malden Catholic on Jan. 18.

BOYS HOCKEY HAVE ANOTHER TIE AND A W IN THE WIN COLUMN
Burlington (2-5-2 overall) couldn’t find a way to break the 1-1 tie after three periods of play, in Watertown on Jan 11.  The lone goal in the game came from sophomore Seumas McMakin. The Devils stayed home and got a win, 3-2, as Bridgewater-Raynham Regional came to town on Jan. 14. Goals in the game came from sophomores Nolan Jennings, Alex Robbins and senior Will Curtin.

Burlington will be on the road at the Stoneham Arena against Wakefield on Jan. 21.

GIRLS B-BALL WIN TWO AT HOME
Burlington (4-5 overall) defeated Arlington High School in their home court, 58-37, on Jan. 10. Leading offensively was senior Alyvia Pena (23 points) and sophomore Savanna Scali (16 points).  The girls had another nail biting win, 52-48, on Jan 13. against Melrose High School. Leading offensively for the ladies was Pena (35 points).

Burlington was on the is on the road in Belmont on Jan. 17.

BOYS B-BALL ON HOT STREAK, SCHOOL RECORD SET BY RODRIGUEZ
Red Devils (10-1 overall) won by in a close game in Arlington, 54-52 , on Jan 10. Scoring leaders from the game came from junior Cedric Rodriguez (17 points), senior Eric Sekyaya (14 points) and senior Ben Poehler (11 points).  Burlington had a big win over Melrose, 75-58, on Jan. 13 at home. It was also a record breaking day for junior Cedric Rodriguez (37 points) as he scored 10 3-pointers (school record). Congrats to him! Stay tuned for a full feature on Cedric Rodriguez’s 10 3-pointers school record on BNEWS Sports.  Other athletes leading the way offensively was senior Ben Poehler (17 points). The Red Devils kept the streak going after a 50-39 win over Belmont on Jan 17. Leading the way in scoring was junior Jaden Brehm who had a career high (18 points), Poehler (13 points) and Rodriguez (11 points).

Burlington will be on the road at Wakefield Memorial High School on Jan. 20.

TRACK TEAMS GET INVITE TO MSTCA INVITATIONAL, SCHOOL RECORD SET BY ELIJAH WOLINKSKI
Both track teams competed in the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Invitational on Jan. 13 through Jan. 15. You can check out the full results here. In addition, senior Elijah Wolinkski broke a new school record, 11″ 6′, for his performance  for indoor pole vault. Congrats to Elijah! The girls team are now (3-1 overall) and the boys remain undefeated (4-0 overall) will both be back for their scheduled meet at the Track at New Balance on Jan. 26 against Wilmington.

BOYS SWIMMING FALL TO WATERTOWN AND READING
The Red Devils (2-4 overall) fell to Watertown at home,91-71, on Jan. 10. Burlington competed at the Burbank YMCA in Reading on Jan. 14 where they lost 92-73. Burlington came away victorious with an 88-81 win over Winchester on Jan. 17.

Burlington will be on the road in Haverhill on Jan. 24.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS GETS FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON IN READING
Lady Devils (2-1 overall) secured their first win of the season against Winchester of Jan. 10 136 to 125. Burlington had another win over Arlington, 137-130, on Jan. 17.

Burlington will be on the road at Melrose High School on Jan. 20.

BOYS GYMNASTICS WINS REMATCH AGAINST LOWELL, NEWTON NORTH AND BRAINTREE
Red Devil Gymnastics (2-0 overall) had a meet at home on Jan. 12. against Braintree, Lowell and Newton North. Burlington came in first place with 142.3 points, Newton North (122.9), Braintree (79.1) and Lowell (61.4). 

The Red Devils will face these teams once again at home on against these teams at home on Jan. 19.
