Red Devil Winter Sports: Swimmer Shay Woodbury Breaks Own School Record, Basketball Gets First Wins

The start of the winter season has begun at Burlington High School. Take a look at what went down over the weekend:

SWIMMER SHAY WOODBURY BREAKS OWN RECORD
Red Devil Swimming lost 96-66 to Belmont on Dec. 12 in the season opener. But on a positive note, Shay Woodbury broke his own record from last year in the 100 Backstroke, coming in at 57.77 seconds. He has earned a spot in the Sectionals and State Championship meet this coming February. Congrats, Shay!

Burlington faces Arlington on December 16, results forthcoming.

BASKETBALL TEAMS GET FIRST WINS OF THE SEASON
Both the boys and girls basketball teams got their first victories  of the season against the Reading Rockets.

It was the first game for both teams: The girls competed for the first time under their new coach, Neil Rebelo, and the boys demonstrated they still had what it takes without star player Cedric Rodriguez, who graduated after the last season.

The boys won 51-40; the girls won 49-41.

HOCKEY TEAMS FALL TO READING
The varsity hockey teams began their seasons on the road in Reading, but unfortunately both teams were outplayed. The girls lost 5-0; the boys lost 3-1, with Nolan Jennings scoring the sole and first goal of the season.

You can check out the home opener for both squads as they take on Lexington, Wednesday evening on our BCATTV Facebook page beginning at 5:30 p.m.

DEVILS WRESTLING LOSES TRI-MEET OVER THE WEEKEND
The Red Devils wrestling team started the season off at 0-3 after a tri-meet with Milton Academy, Chelmsford and Tyngsboro in the season opener on Dec. 14 at the BHS Gymnasium. Josh Leavitt led the way with 3 pins at 215lbs for the Red Devils. Maximillian Shvartsman (106lbs) and Cameron Bonnell (138lbs) both made their Burlington High debuts, both going 3-0. Noah Farrow finished 2-1 and Davi Tonani earned his first varsity win. Emanick Carrasquillo also won a match by pin. The team will be on the road at Malden Catholic on Wednesday evening.

TRACK TEAMS BEGINS THURSDAY
