Red Devil Winter Sports: Track Teams Win First Meets, Devils Wrestling Compete in Bossi Tournament

While most people were on holiday break including us the games didn’t stop for the Red Devils, let’s catch you up at a full look back at the action. 

TRACK TEAMS WIN FIRST MEETS
Both the girls and boys indoor track teams played against Watertown on December 27 getting big wins for both squads 81-17 girls and 90-10 for the boys. Their records now are 1-1. 

The boys team also competed in the Boston Holiday Challenge on December 28 with Krish Almeida, Matt Conte, Chris Williams, Nick Abbott, Shane Sheehan, William Morrison, Arav Thekekar and William Preston participating. You can check out the full results here. 

DEVILS WRESTLING COMPETE IN GEORGE BOSSI HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT
It was a big day for the wrestlers at the Bossi Holiday Tournament in Lowell on December 21 and 22. Freshman Max Shvartsman went 3-0 in his matches on the first day of the event. He lost the quarter finals but he went 11-1 in the consolation match. He was the second BHS freshmen to place in the top eight finalists. Josh Lee was the first to do it back in 2014, where he took seventh. You can check out the full tournament results here. 

DEVILS WRESTLING FINISH OUT 2024 WITH TWO TRI-MEETS
The team also competed in multiple tri-meets over the holiday break. In their first meet the Devils went 1-3, losing against Billerica, Lynnfield/North Reading and a 52-21 win against Lexington on December 28. On New Year’s Eve, they competed against Pentucket, Worcester Tech and Saugus/Peabody. The team finished the meet 1-3, defeating WT, 42-32 and losing to Pentucket and Saugus/Peabody. Cameron Bonnell and Tyler Vandais both had three pins, while Max Shvartsman and Josh Leavitt each had two pins, all finishing 3-0 in their respective matchups. Freshman Christos Tasiopoulos and Kai Gong both earned pins for their first varsity wins. They now stand at 3-7 and will update you on their matchup against  Bedford, Hanover and Winchester from this past weekend.

TEWKSBURY HANDED BOYS BASKETBALL FIRST LOSS IN ROMANO HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT
Boys Basketball had two matchups against Bedford and Tewksbury in the Tony Romano Holiday Tournament over the break. The team defeated Bedford in a close match 59-52 and Tewksbury handed the boys their first loss of the season, 57-36. They now stand at 4-1 and the game against Melrose was our Game of the Week and can be found here. 

GIRLS BASKETBALL DEFEATED IPSWICH IN BLOWOUT FASHION
With a big 62-16 win over Ipswich the girls basketball team improves to 3-1. You can watch this game here. They now stand at 3-1 and the game against Melrose was our Game of the Week and can be found here. 

BOYS SWIM RETURN NEXT WEEK
Red Devil Swimming will be returning on January 10 to face Winchester, hoping to get their first win of the season after losing to Belmont, Arlington and Reading earlier in the season. They stand at 0-3. 

HOCKEY TEAMS EVEN OUT RECORDS
Girls Hockey had a 6-2 loss to Malden Catholic on December 23. Caitlyn Tremblay and Emma Steiner scored two goals. The boys had one game against Westford Academy on December 28, where the outcome was a three to nothing win. Aidan Shanahan, Connor McElroy and Nolan Jennings each scored goals for the Devils. On defense goalie Camden Shanahan had 26 saves. You can watch this game here. The varsity hockey teams are both 2-2, and we will update you about the Stoneham game from this past weekend.
