Red Devils Fall to the Undefeated Stoneham Spartans

Burlington brought their energy to the stadium as the Stoneham Spartans came to town on October 29 but it was not enough to secure a win.

Burlington kept pace with the Spartans during the first half as senior/quarterback Ronan Noke connected with senior/wide receiver Sammy Doherty for two touchdown passes. The first was thrown sixty nine yards and the second was sixty five yards. Noke also found his way into the end zone during the end of the second.

As for the Spartans, they used a very strong running game in the first half, with the Red Devils defense allowing four touchdowns. In addition they also gave up four two point attempts. Three touchdowns were made by senior/running back Patrick McNamara and one by junior quarterback Jason Nutting.

Going into the half Burlington was down by a ten point deficit at 32 to 22.

Noke’s connections with Doherty continued in the second half as he threw him two touchdowns, the first was a fifty one yarder and the second was for ninety yards. However, the Devils’ momentum shifted later on in the second half as they were penalized for a number of reasons including delay of game, holding, pass interferences, false starts, unsportsmanlike conducts and a horse collar tackle.

Stoneham continued their strong running game in the second half and the Burlington defense allowed an additional five touchdowns, two in the third and three in the fourth. With Burlington being down by thirty two points in the fourth, the Stoneham Spartans controlled the rest of the game by running out the clock. Stoneham won the game with a 68-36 victory.

Burlington finished the regular season at (0-8) and will have a consolation game against Somerville on November 5 at Varsity Field.
