Red Devils Football Falls To Woburn

The Battle of Winn Street went down on Friday, September 17th at Connolly Memorial Field where the Burlington Red Devils took on their rival Woburn Tanners.

Burlington won the coin toss, elected to receive and began the opening drive from their own thirty-one yard line. The first play of the game was a dropped pass from Quarterback Ronan Noke to Running Back Adam Eldeeb. On second down Noke found wide receiver Sammy Doherty for a first down at the forty-five yard line. The next three plays did not result in a first down and Burlington punted from their forty-nine yard line.

The Tanners started their first drive from the fourteen yard line where Woburn Quarterback Brett Tuzzolo threw a twenty eight yard pass, completed for a first and ten at the forty-two yard line. Later in the drive, on third down, Tuzzolo ran it in from the ten yard line for a touchdown. The extra point left it 7-0 Tanners. With six minutes left in the first quarter, Noke was intercepted by Tanner Liam Dillon for a pick-six touchdown. Tanner’s Full Back Bryan Ferreira ran in the two point conversion for a 15-0 score.

Burlington quickly answered back on the next drive from their own thirty eight yard line with a Noke to Doherty sixty yard touchdown pass play, the extra point making it 15-7. The Tanners put up more points on their next drive with a forty-five yard pass play from their forty six yard line. 22-7 with the extra point. The Red Devils got the ball back on their own thirty-five yard line and marched down the field to end the first quarter in a fourth and five situation.

Being down 15 points at the start of the second quarter, the Red Devils went for it on fourth and goal from the five yard line where Noke threw it to his brother and wide receiver Aidan Noke for a Burlington Touchdown. The extra point was good as well making it 22-14. Woburn added another score with a twenty-nine yard touchdown run by Ferreira. The extra point made the score 29-14.  Starting from their own forty yard line Burlington gained ten yards on the ensuing drive. With a first and ten at the fifty, Noke threw his third interception to Woburn’s Anthony Travers. The Tanners took advantage of the interception scoring another touchdown and a good extra point made it 36-14. Noke threw another interception on the next drive to Woburn’s Andrew Taft. Tuzzolo handed it off to Ferreira for another Tanner score leaving the score 43-14 at halftime.

Woburn started with the ball in the second half from their own forty-five yard line. On a fourth down attempt Woburn fumbled with the Burlington defense making the recovery. On the next Red Devils drive Noke threw his fourth interception of the night to Tanner Liam Dillon. With that Woburn’s Full Back Bryan Ferreira went back to work running it in from the thirty-four yard line for another Tanners touchdown. The extra point made it 50-14 to end the third quarter. During the fourth quarter Woburn kept it on the ground, using the clock to their advantage. The final score was 50-14 Woburn.

Burlington drops to (0-2) on the season and will travel to Belmont to face the Marauders on Friday, September 24.
