The Burlington Red Devils undefeated season came to an end after a hard-fought game against the Stoneham Spartans.
Stoneham running back Sean Kilty dominated for the Spartans with five touchdowns over the course of the evening. Kilty scored two touchdowns early in the first quarter, giving the Spartan’s the lead, 14-0. The Devils quickly responded with a 37-yard dart from quarterback Anthony Gerrior to wide receiver Ryan Brooks, keeping the game close at 14-7. But the Spartans continued to have success running the ball, and with only three passes in the game the final score was 42-21.
But the Devils still logged some ambitious milestones: Gerrior threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns in this tough matchup, and wide receiver Matthew Conte scored the first touchdown of his varsity career.
The Devils are now 6-1 this season and will return home on November 1 for their final regular season game, this one against Watertown. That night, 11 graduating seniors will be recognized for their hard work on the field.
