It was a busy weekend for Burlington Fall sports, as we head into the middle of September.
The Girls Junior Varsity and Varsity Field Hockey Teams both had a match up against the Wilmington Wildcats on Friday afternoon. The Lady Devils both suffered a loss on the season against the Wildcats.
The Varsity team lost 5-0 and Junior Varsity lost 2-1. Their was a Burlington goal made late in the game by Addy Jay during the Junior Varsity game.
The teams will travel to Stoneham to take on the Spartans on Tuesday afternoon. The Varsity team stands at (3-2), while Junior Varsity is at (2-1) in their conferences.
Girls Varsity Soccer had their first win of the season on Friday afternoon as they had to travel to East Boston to take on the Jets. The team delivered a shutout of 3-0.
The team will move to (1-3) in their conference. They will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon in Wilmington to take on the Wildcats.
Finally, Burlington High School Football traveled to Lawrence Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon to take on the Lancers.
The game turned out to be a pretty close game to say the least, but the Red Devils walked away with a victory 30-22.
Lawrence Quarterback Jacob Tamayo threw for 145 yards and Burlington Quarterback Khyle Pena threw for 107 yards.
For rushing yards, Sr. and Lawrence Running Back Gianni Vargas had 10 receptions and 68 rushing yards, Pena has 22 carries and 104 rushing yards and Burlington Running Back John Hurley had 16 carries and 84 rushing yards.
As for touchdowns, Pena ran for two rushing touchdowns (10 yds, 3 yds 9yds), Lawrence Running Back Dewy Baez had one rushing touchdown (4 yds), (Law.)Wide Receiver Isaias Richards had a passing touchdown from QB (Law.) Jacob Tamayo for 5 yds.
Finally, Wide Receiver Jake McCauley (Burl.) had a 30 yd td pass from Pena and Wide Receiver (Law.) Manny Lara had a 55 yd td pass from Tamayo.
Burlington begins the season with a (1-0) start over the Lancers, and will have their home opener against the Woburn Tanners at home on Friday afternoon.
