As the first tastes of winter chill hit the air, some of Burlington’s fall sports teams are wrapping up their seasons, while others are still battling for their final victories. Let’s take a look at the latest:
STONEHAM ENDS RED DEVILS FOOTBALL’S WINNING STREAK
Stoneham Spartans defeated the Red Devils 42-21, ending their six-game winning streak. You can check out the full details here.
In the Division 4 MIAA Power Rankings, the Devils are in 7th place out of 39. The final regular season game is this coming Friday against Watertown, with a senior night ceremony prior to kickoff.
Eleven seniors will be recognized as they head off to their next chapters: JT Doherty, Anthony Gerrior, John Melo, Ryan Rumsey, Arthur De Barros, Tyler Vadnais, Chris Williams, Christian Fillios, Mark Seltser, Joseph Doyle and James Mutyabi.
SOCCER TEAMS’ SEASONS CAME TO AN END
The Burlington girls soccer team lost 3-1 against Wilmington on October 21. On October 23, they defeated Stoneham 3-1, bringing them to a season standing at 6-9-2. Burlington has one game left this week in Waltham on October 28. Details forthcoming. In the D2 MIAA Power Rankings, the girls are ranked 37 out of 64.
The boys soccer team finished the regular season at 6-9-3 after a 3-0 win against Wilmington and a 1-1 tie against Stoneham, on October 21 and 23, respectively. They are ranked 35 out of 59 teams in the D2 power rankings.
Twelve seniors will be departing from the team: Max Leavitt, Sean Torpey, Nick Abbott, Daksh Shah, Krish Soni, Soham Shah, Emmanuel Dos Santos, Simone Pastore, Rohan Dutta, Isaac Muwanguzi, Josh Castro and Victor Joao Resende Andrarde.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL HOLD SENIOR NIGHT
After back-to-back 3-0 wins against Willmington and Stoneham, the Lady Devils Volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 3-1 against Central Catholic on October 25. They recognized seniors Maddie Spreadbury, Elise Kovbasa, Karina Boyadjiev, Emily Andriolo and Grace Seaman in their Senior Night tradition.

The team will be heading to the D2 MIAA Playoffs with the seeding to be released on October 29.
FIELD HOCKEY TEAM PREPARES FOR POSTSEASON
The girls field hockey team finished the regular season 6-10-2 after a 1-0 win against Wilmington and 4-0 loss to Stoneham on October 22 and 24, respectively. Burlington qualified for the post-season tournament; they will find out who they will face on October 29. In the power rankings, they are ranked 29 out of 53.
BURLINGTON/WOBURN SWIM CELEBRATE SENIOR AT FINAL MEET
The Woburn and Burlington swim team lost to Arlington/Watertown 95-73. The team celebrated their eight seniors: Megan Sheehy, Valery Verdier, Alessia Pedruzzi, Amelia Nagel, Julia Campos, Sonali Patel, Lee-Anne Mlilwana and Janya Mehndiratta.
The team competed at the Middlesex League Meet on October 24, coming in seventh place overall. Many of Burlington’s swimmers surpassed their personal records in their various events, including Kayleigh McCarthy, who placed fourth overall in the 200 Freestyle and earned herself a spot in the Sectionals and State Championships. Ryley McCarthy was the sole Burlington swimmer to win her event outright, coming in first in the 100 Backstroke at 1:02.78, her fastest time of the season.
Eight Burlington athletes will move on to the Sectionals and State Championships: Grace Davison, Kayleigh McCarthy, Megan Sheehy, Tuyen Nguyen, Alexandra Mahon, Ryley McCarthy, Sadie Floyd, Ava Eldridge.
