Row 34 Opens in Former Island Creek Oyster Bar Location

Goodbye Island Creek Oyster Bar, hello Row 34.

This past Saturday, the high-end seafood restaurant Row 34 opened its doors in the former location of Island Creek in The District. The ownership will stay the same but when proposing the change they said the Row 34 brand was more consistent with other existing restaurants in their portfolio. This is the third Row 34 location, with the others being Boston and Portsmouth, N.H.

According to plans filed with the town, the seat count and seat layout would not be altered, as the interior changes are mostly cosmetic in nature.

There is little information on the history of the restaurant or its philosophies or approaches to food preparation. The only thing in the “about us” section is the line: “We’re Row 34. If we could eat oysters and drink beer for every meal period, we probably would. Professionals Only.”

However, BostonChefs.com, an area food website, had a bit more to say about the establishment

“In keeping with the tradition at Row 34 Boston and Portsmouth, chef and co-owner Jeremy Sewall and his partners continue to celebrate New England’s rich and diverse seafood traditions with a menu that highlights lesser-known fish varieties from regional fishermen, lobstermen and shellfish farmers,” they wrote.

The Boston foodies also seem highly optimistic about the drink menu.

“To be sure they have the perfect pairings for all that fresh local seafood, they’ve tapped some serious talent to oversee the beverage program. Beer Director Suzy Hayes, who curates the restaurant’s 16 oft-changing draught lines, focuses on contemporary ‘pints’ of view while Spirit Director Vannaluck Hongthong has put together a list of fun and tasty cocktails designed to keep the party going,” they wrote.
