This event is a culmination of events Saheli hosts in October in recognition of “Domestic Violence Awareness Month”. Earlier this month a tree was decorated on the Burlington Town Common and purple candles (lights) were lit to honor survivors, remember victims, and raise Awareness of Domestic Violence. There are victim’s stories hanging from the tree for the public to read.

Domestic violence happens behind closed doors – irrespective of education and wealth status; and women suffer in silence. Recent global prevalence figures indicate that about 1 in 4 women worldwide have experienced domestic violence and 1 in 3 have faced either physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime.

This year alone, Saheli has supported over 300 survivors of domestic violence with police and legal advocacy, placing them in safe homes and assisting them to be economically and financially empowered. Join team Saheli and ‘BE HER WARRIOR’.

Funds raised from this event help provide winter clothing, pay gas bills and provide driving lessons to financially empower survivors. For information on who Saheli supports and what they do visit their site.
