The Burlington Police Department has partnered with Safe and Sound Schools for their Northeast School Safety Summit, taking place at the Cafe Escadrille on October 24 and 25.
The summits bring together local leaders and national experts for two days of speakers, panels and sessions focused on safety and security challenges facing our schools, and bringing actionable recommendations and strategies to school communities.
Michele Gay, co-founder and executive director of Safe and Sound Schools, has helped create free school safety tools on their website.
“The Northeast School Safety Summit is attracting attention well beyond Massachusetts, with participants from 10 regional states and even the Midwest,” said Gay. “This interest emphasizes the national relevance of our speakers and school safety experts, while highlighting the critical need for this information in K-12 communities. The Burlington Police Department and our local partners are providing an invaluable service by offering access to these essential resources and trainings right in their backyard. They are true champions of this effort, and we look forward to an impactful event this October.”
This School Safety Summit has been in the works for sometime, but it’s particularly relevant to the Burlington community with Burlington High School having recently been placed on lockdown due a security system malfunction. School administrators at the time thanked the police and school resource officer for their quick response.
Attendees will gain insights into current trends and proven practices in mental and behavioral health, community culture, law and emergency management. The event also emphasizes the importance of building relationships to support a “whole community” approach to school safety.
