Burlington Police Chief Thomas Browne was recently before the Select Board to request the appointment of two police officers. Browne noted the appointments are more a formality as the two officers are scheduled to attend the Municipal Police Training Committee in Lynnfield in July. As part of that process they require letters of recommendation from the Town Administrator.      Â
Cody Davison is a Burlington resident and graduate of BHS and UMass Lowell where he graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice. Davison has served as a reserve police officer in Ogunquit, Maine and was previously employed by the town as a Parks and Recreation maintenance worker over a few summers.Â
Byron Lara, a resident of Dudley is working toward an Associates Degree at Quinsigamond Community College and is leaving his position as general manager of his family’s business in Worcester to pursue law enforcement.Â
Burlington Fire Chief Andrew Connerty was also before the board recommending Fire Lieutenant James Sorenson to the position of Limited Assignment Firefighter before his retirement in July. A Limited Assignment Firefighter allows former members of the department to work special details if a permanent firefighter is unavailable. Limited Assignment Firefighter is a position approved by Burlington Firefighter Local 2313. Â
The Select Board approved all three requests by a vote of 4-0-0. Select Board Chair Mike Runyan was absent.
