Last week a longtime Burlington resident celebrated a major milestone. Olga DeDiaz celebrated her 100th birthday on Friday April 8th. Select Board Member Micheal Runyan, presented DeDiaz with a Proclamation from the Select Board last weekend. The proclamation states, “the Select Board wishes to honor Olga S. DeDiaz on her 100th birthday and do hereby proclaim Friday April 8, 2022 as Olga S. DeDiaz Day in The Town of Burlington, and to wish her many more happy and healthy years.”
According to the proclamation, DeDiaz was born in Mayaquez, Puerto Rico and has been a resident of Burlington since 1988. She married her husband Augustin E. Diaz on December 25, 1948 and they shared 64 years together. Olga graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a degree in elementary education, specializing in English as a Second Language (ESL). During her time in Burlington she has taught adults ESL at Burlington High School. She also served as a receptionist at St. Malachy’s Church and as a Lay Eucharistic Minister at Lahey Hospital. Her hobbies include gardening, quilting, and decorating.
Select Board Member Runyan states that Olga celebrated her birthday surrounded by dozens of family members and friends. Happy Birthday, Olga!!
