Select Board Names June Pride Month in Burlington

The Burlington Select Board Monday pronounced June as Pride Month in town. Select Board Member Sarah Cawley read a proclamation: 

“Whereas, the Town of Burlington supports the rights of every citizen to experience equality and freedom from discrimination, welcomes people from diverse backgrounds, and believes a diverse population leads to a more vibrant community, and whereas all people, regardless of age, color, disability, gender identity, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation or socioeconomic background have the right to be treated on the basis of their intrinsic value as human beings, and whereas the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual communities offer many valuable contributions to the cultural, academic, artistic, social and economic successes of the Town of Burlington, and whereas in support of Burlington’s LGBTQIA+ members, groups and leadership in promoting diversity and inclusivity, the Burlington Public School district’s commitment to equity, and our own commitment to eradicate prejudice and discrimination everywhere, therefore this Board hereby proclaims June, 2024 the month of Pride Month in Burlington, and encourages all residents to reflect on the difficult work for equality that LGBTQIA+ members face and to celebrate their valuable contributions to our community.” 

One Saturday, June 1, there will be a Pride celebration on the Burlington Town Common, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in honor of co-founder Leo Abramov, who passed away in 2023
