Burlington’s Sculpture Park is coming together.

Selectmen liaison to the Sculpture Park committee Nick Priest asked the board for the go ahead to begin placing six sculptures in the grassy area between the Grand View Farm and the Burlington Police Station on Monday night. Each piece will be installed roughly every two weeks over the summer.

Burlington DPW will assist in pouring the concrete pads the sculptures will be mounted on. However, due to the size and weight of the pieces, Selectmen Mike Runyan noted facilitating the actual placement of the pieces will call for outside equipment.

“The ability to lift some of the sculptures is beyond the capacity we have here in town,” he stated.

Priest said he will be following up with the Sculpture Park Committee on getting the use of cranes to lift and place the sculptures.

Selectmen Bob Hogan asked for information on how the concrete pads might affect the land and grass in the area. Town Administrator Paul Sagarino said he doesn’t believe the pads would have a lasting effect on the grounds in the event they are removed. The Sculpture Park committee is already in touch with the DPW to help anyway they can.

According to Sculpture Park committee chair Jon Sachs they are currently working on the schedule for the installs and will be on the site putting in place holders Tuesday, June 30th. There are no public unveiling events planned as of now due to COVID. They are planning some online events where people can meet and ask questions of the sculptors. The schedule for these virtual events is also in the works.
