Shawsheen Football Team Heads To Super Bowl

It’s been a banner season for the Shawsheen Valley Tech Rams, the football team at the Shawsheen Valley Technical High School.

The undefeated Rams are going to Gillette Stadium for the D5 MIAA Super Bowl Championship on Friday, December 6. The Rams completed their regular season at 12-0, scoring a whopping 472 combined points on offense. Meanwhile, they gave up just 67 points to their opponents the whole season, a remarkable ratio. In the playoffs, the Rams defeated Gloucester, 56-6, Newburyport, 42-0, and Old Rochester Regional, 28-7, respectively.

This will be their fourth appearance in the big game, and they even won once: They beat Cantons’ Blue Hills Regional High School back in 2010.

A great part of the team’s success is due to the hard work that the players and coaches put in during the off season,” said Head Coach Al Costabile. “We purposely created one of the toughest schedules in school history.”

Shawsheen’s team, including Burlington players Jonte Folkes and Joseph Menkello, will face off against the Foxborough Warriors, who finished their season at 5-4, scoring 235 points and allowing 158 points defensively.

It’s a tough matchup: Foxborough is the 2023 reigning Super Bowl champion, and, deeper into local football history, Foxborough ended the BHS Red Devils’ undefeated 12-0 streak in the 2006 Super Bowl.

“We have a great deal of respect for the defending champions Foxborough,” Costabile said. “We will have to bring our A game. They are very talented and experienced and are loaded with weapons. We will face our biggest challenge of the year.

“This is clearly one of the hardest working teams and coaches that I have ever had. I am so proud of all of them.”

You can watch the big game on December 6 at 5:30 pm on TV-38 or at the Patriots YouTube Channel.
