The technical high school serving Burlington students is currently holding an election for parent/guardian representatives on the SVTHS School Council. According to Principal Jessica Cook, the council is responsible for assisting the principal in the following areas:Â
- Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards.
- Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school.
- Reviewing the annual school building budget.
- Formulating a school improvement plan.
- Reviewing the student handbook each spring to consider changes in disciplinary policy to take effect for the following school year.
The council meets months on Thursdays at 2:30, and plans to meet on the following dates for the current school year:Â

- Thursday, December 7, 2023
- Thursday, January 11, 2024
- Thursday, February 8, 2024
- Thursday, March 14, 2024
- Thursday, April 11, 2024

There are three spots open for parents of current Shawsheen students.Â
Parents and guardians who are interested are asked to fill out the 2023-2024 candidate form by Thursday, Sept. 21 to be included on the ballot.Â
The election will be held in person between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28, the same time as Parent Teacher Night. All current parents and guardians are eligible to vote.Â
