Simonds Park Basketball Court Improvement Project

Simonds Park seems to be getting better everyday. As reported by BNEWS a new treehouse is being installed thanks to a generous donation from the Gillingham Family and funds from the Simonds Trust. Renovations to the Simonds Park basketball courts are also underway.

Following approval of a May Town Meeting warrant article for improvements to the Simonds Park basketball courts the project went out to bid in August. In September the Recreation Commission approved funding from the revolving account, along with the warrant article, to help fund the basketball courts project and voted to award the contract to local Burlington business Cella Construction Inc.

Parks and Rec Director Bredan Egan told BNEWS that over the years four layers of asphalt have been built up on the courts. They’re removing all of the old layers and after regrading the base and adding a new subsurface the final court surface will be laid down.

“We’re hoping to have it substantially completed by the beginning of November. We may have to come back in spring when the weather warms up to paint the surfaces,” said Egan.

The Simonds Park basketball court renovation project includes the resurfacing, new lighting and new basketball support systems. Portions of the parking lot around the courts will be closed during the project so people are asked to use the entrance on Church Lane if you need to park in the lot.
