Strega Italiano Files Application to Fill Former Del Frisco’s Grill Location

A high-end Italian restaurant that was reportedly considering moving into town has officially filed applications with the Burlington Planning Department.

Strega Italiano, one of three brands owned by restaurant group PPX Hospitality Brands which also owns Legal Seafoods and the steakhouse Smith & Wollensky, has filed a special permit application with the planning department to take up residence in the former Del Frisco’s Grill location at 90-92 Middlesex Turnpike.

Del Frisco’s closed in 2019 and spent the subsequent time attempting to find an entity for a transfer of its all-alcohol license. Strega had that license transferred to it in November by the Select Board, clearing the way for the restaurant to finalize a lease with the site owner.

Now the company is looking to move forward to gain the necessary permits to open a Stega Italiano in Burlington.

“With locations in Boston’s Seaport, Back Bay and Woburn, Strega is very excited about the opportunity to open a new Strega Italiano restaurant at this location,” the cover letter to the application states.

The restaurant group said they are looking to make some renovations of the building. Attorney Trish Farnsworth, representing Strega, said the company does plan to do roughly $1.5 million in renovations of mostly cosmetic changes to fit their brand. She estimates they will open in about six to nine months.
